Chapter 7 - Swan

Yeosang came back to his senses in a few seconds as he was slowly lowered back on the ground, but he felt that something's wrong. Well of course something is wrong when you were just floated above the ground by the scary red light of a hawk who can turn into a person... but it was a different kind of wrong. As he looked down at himself, he gasped. He had white feathers. And duck legs. And a beak. And wings. He turned into a freaking swan. He wanted to scream, but all he could make out was a weak 'oh' sound.

'Now we are both made out of feathers' grinned Rothbart. 'Good luck against the hunters and the predator birds. You will barely save your beloved forest this way, Chosen One.'

Mingi had enough. He did a small run and poked his unicorn horn into Rothbart's butt.

'Waaahhhh!!' screamed Rothbart and turned back into a hawk. 'You'll regret this, pony!!'

'Go, Yeosang!' shouted Mingi as he started running away from the hawk. Out of instict, Yeosang spread his wings and flew away, back to the direction of the lake. He saw Seonghwa and the animals on the other side and landed on the water in front of them.

'Oh, Yeosang' Seonghwa looked at him with sad eyes. 'I'm sorry I couldn't do anything to help. He is stronger than me.'

'B-But you are the strongest' chirped the small bird which was in Seonghwa's hands. Seonghwa smiled down at it and put it on the ground next to the others. Then he took the crystal and with his magic wand, he transformed it into a crown. He put it on the swan's head.

'This will protect you against Rothbart. The crystal chose you, therefore it's going to shield you till its power lasts. As long as you are wearing it, he can't hurt you.'

Just at that exact moment, the hawks landed next to them and turned into Rothbart and Omen.

'Don't think you can save your Chosen One from the magic of the true king of the forest, brother!' Rothbart wasted no time as he directed his dark magic against Yeosang. 'Get ready to become a feather pillow!' As soon as the red light reached him, a huge purple bubble appeared around the swan. Seonghwa was right, the crystal prtected its owner against Rothbart's spell. Then the bubble started growing and suddenly it bursted, throwing Rothbart's spell back at the dark wizard, who stumbled from the sudden power.

'Aaaaagghhh, you all will pay for this!' shouted Rothbart pointing at all of them, and flew away with Omen. 'I'm coming back for you!'

'What about the feather pillow?' they heard Omen's screeching.

'Yes, Yeosang!! You trapped him!!' shouted Mingi as he started jumping around. Yeosang has learned that the unicorn was really freaking loud. He sadly walked out of the lake.

'He was the one trapping me! Look at me now, I can't go home like this!' he spread his wings.

'The only way to break the dark magic is if we defeat Rothbart. We can't do that without your help' said Seonghwa.

'Can't you turn me back to a person?' said Yeosang sadly. Seonghwa sighed.

'Rothbart's magic is too strong. He developed it through decades. I managed to turn back these elves' he gestured towards the animals around him 'but only from sunset till sunrise. Then they turn back into their animal forms.'

'It would be enough for me for now. Please? Can you give it a try? I don't want to be a swan for the rest of my life' cried Yeosang. Seonghwa nodded and touched Yeosang's crown with his magic wand.

The sun set down at that exact moment. The animals around Seonghwa started glowing purple and turned into people. But they were actually really tiny people. Actual elves.

The hedgehog had brown hair, feline eyes and a sharp jawline. Yeosang would've said he was handsome if it wasn't for the fact that the boy was less than a meter tall.

The badger boy had black hair with some highlights in it and slim figure. He was a bit shorter than the hedgehog guy.

The deer turned into a tall guy (well, all of them were mini-sized so him being tall meant he was about a meter tall) with brown hair and a puppy-like face.

Finally the small bird, which Yeosang recognised as a baby swan, turned into a boy, who was even shorter compared to any of them, with blue hair. They all looked back at Yeosang... but nothing happened to him. And then...

'It's happening!' the blue haired boy clapped his tiny hands excitedly. Yeosang started floating again, and he turned back into his original self.

'Oh my god, my hands! My fingers! Elbows! Thank you, thank you!' he shouted excitedly and hugged Seonghwa.

'Awww, this is beautiful! Woo, hug me!' the hedgehog boy spread his arms towards the badger boy, but he dodged the hug on time.

'San, you still have spikes!' he pointed out the spikes on the boy's back and arms. Yeosang realized that they all have something that resembles their animal forms. Badger tail, spikes, smol deer horns and swan feathers. As he tapped his own head, he felt a few feathers at his own nape too.

'These are San, Wooyoung, Yunho and Hongjoong' introduced the elves Seonghwa. 'Also don't forget, my magic only lasts till dawn, then you'll...'

'... turn back to a swan' Yeosang sighed. 'Okay, you convinced me, we have to defeat Rothbart. But how?'

'There's a magical book in the forest which knows everything. I'm sure it knows how we can defeat him. But only the Chosen One can open the book.' said Seonghwa.

'That's why you needed me' nodded Yeosang. 'Where's the book?'

'Ooooohhhhh' Yunho hid behind Hongjoong. Despite being the tallest, he seemed not that brave.

'It's in the oldest tree in the Northern part of the forest' said Hongjoong.

'And it's being guarded by a troll!' screeched Wooyoung. 'It's really big and ugly!'

'And the place is cursed! And it's dark! And... and...' looks like San forgot whatever he was about to say.

'And the troll eats humans!' added Wooyoung.

'It's dangerous!' said Yunho still hiding behind Hongjoong's much smaller frame.

'Oh, shut it guys! Nothing's scary enough to scare Song Mingi away! Come on Yeosang, I'll show you the way!' stood the unicorn between them. Yeosang raised an eyebrow.

'Wait, I thought you'll turn into a human too!'

'Jokes on you, I'm a real unicorn!' Mingi raised his head proudly. Yeosang chuckled at his new friend's attitude.

'Here's the key to the tree' said Seonghwa and handed Yeosang a... leaf.

'Wow, uhh... thanks! I was expecting something fancier, but ok' Yeosang took the leaf. 'Like if I lose it do I just take one from a tree or what?'

'Don't lose it and there won't be a problem' Seonghwa said strictly.

'K, mom' sighed Yeosang. 'C'mon Mingi, let's fight the troll that eats people with this magic leaf so I can defeat the hawk dude so I won't turn into a swan and can leave this place with talking animal-elves and Fairy Kings behind... Gosh.'
