I'm Used To It.

April 12th, 1912- 3:19pm

Jack laid in my bed as I got ready in my homemade dress. Since he was in 3rd class, he hadn't had the luxury of a real bed.  I tried to get ready as slow as possible so he could really relax for a little. I wore my hair in a tight French braid. I walked out of the bathroom to get a pair of heels, and Jack sat up right as I walked into my bedroom. He smirked when he saw me.

"Do you have a dress for me?" He crossed his legs and smiled.

"I'm sure everyone would love that." I joked, putting in a new pair of earrings.

Jack walked up behind me, looking at the both of us in the mirror. He put his hands on my shoulders and smiled; I couldn't help but do the same. Delaney walked in the room, shrieked out of joy, and ran to tell our parents. I giggled.

"She's really involved, isn't she!" Jack continued to look in the mirror.

"I don't blame her, she's paired me with ever guy I've ever talked to!"

We stood still for a second before I moved to leave the stateroom. He followed behind me with his hands in his pockets.

My parents and sister were waiting for us in the hallway outside the door. All 5 of us walked together to the dining room. As we walked on the deck, a young man approached us; he looked only a few year older than Jack.

"Father, father! I've found him!" The man yelled, looking back. He turned around to talk to Jack.

"Are you Jack Dawson?"

"Who's asking?" Jack was unperturbed.

"You listen to me," The man said, getting closer to Jack. "You do not talk to my father the way you did earlier. There will be serious consequences."

Before Jack could say anything, I stood up straighter and replied: "He was only standing up for me, your father was being quite rude."

The man didn't even say anything. When he heard me talk, he turned to me instead of Jack and hit me.

"Hey! Don't touch her!" Shouted Jack, pushing the man back.

"Ugh! Filthy scum!"

The man walked away, over to his dad. We didn't know what would happen next.

"Y/n, I'm so sorry about that." Jack held my hands.

"It's fine," I said, rubbing my sore face. "I'm used to it."

For years I had been ridiculed for my "non-ladylike" nature. I'd learned to speak up for myself when I was young and I guess I never understood how dangerous that could be.

My family was already at our table inside the dining room. Jack noticed them.

"C'mon, let's go to the table." Jack said, softly. I knew he was angry at the man that hit me.

"Ok."

We both walked into the room and to the table. My father looked worried.

"What was that about?" He asked.

"Just an imbecile." Jack said, getting frustrated just talking about it.

"There's plenty of those nowadays it seems." My mother continued eating.

Our family has always been more... accepting of modern trends. Both of my parents approved of me taking a stand, along with the freedom of women. I was lucky to have such a family.

After Jack walked me back to my room and I fell asleep, I had an odd dream.
