Hoseok was frozen. Shock, surprise, and even fear had taken control over him. He had seen and experienced weird things during his centuries-long life, but nothing like what had just happened.
He was looking at the statue, suddenly hoping Yoongi would magically come back to life.
Unfortunately that didn't happen. As emotions started to overwhelm Hoseok, he felt his phone vibrating.
That didn't matter at that very moment. He tried remembering exactly the sensation of the hand on his shoulder. He tried to relive how the fingers were placed. He couldn't be sure, but somewhere in his heart, he hoped it was Yoongi.
A sigh later, he was reading the newly sent text. It was from Namjoon.
•You coming?•
•Yeah, be right there•Why does time seem to speed up every time I come here?
Hoseok quickly passed his hand on Yoongi's cold and inanimate one before turning back and heading for the university.
~
"Is everything okay?" whispered Jimin.
"Yes, don't worry" replied Hoseok.
"You don't know me well enough, so let me tell you: that's not possible" he replied with a smile.Hopefully it worked and Hoseok shyly smiled as well.
The second class of the day turned out to be extremely boring. Luckily, Jimin and Namjoon were there as well.
Hoseok looked at them for a bit, trying to guess their thoughts.Namjoon was concentrated on what the professor was saying and taking notes. He looked like a top class student with his glasses and his beige jeans jacket. Jimin on the other hand seemed to be absorbed in his world, doodling more than writing down the key aspects of the class.
Fortunately for him, Hoseok had already been to so many universities, in so many different cities than he didn't even need to study anymore. Casually paying attention was enough, as most of the classes sounded the same after a while.
This also meant that Hoseok gladly let his mind wander... back to Yoongi.
Hoseok opened the writing class assignment on his computer. No one would suspect he wasn't taking notes for this class, because it looked like it was exactly what he was doing.
Hoseok took a deep breath and started reading what he had already written. He would probably add some details as he went.
"Aren't we... friends?" asked Hobi, feeling a weird pinch in his heart as he said that word. "You can trust me. I will always understand you."
"Very well" finally agreed August, after hesitating for a long time.
Hobi stood there, waiting. He couldn't believe he would finally have an answer after months and months of wondering. What could make his friend so sad?
"Remember the very first time we met?" asked August.
"Of course I do. You were sleeping in your garden" replied Hobi in a soft chuckle. "You told me you didn't want friends."
"That's right" confirmer August. "There's a reason for that."Hobi stayed silent, scared that if he didn't, August might change his mind back.
"I'm not supposed to say it, but I kinda am a lot older that you" said August.
"Yeah, I know, you're almost 16, aren't you?" asked Hobi.
"That's not entirely true" said August.Hobi frowned.
"Would it perhaps be easier for you to say it directly?" asked Hobi, seeing his friend struggling.
August sighed.
"I'm immortal" he said, dead serious.
Hobi almost laughed. His first thought was that it had to be a joke. However seeing how serious August was made him doubt that instantly.
"What do you mean, immortal?" slowly said Hobi, trying to understand what on earth was going on.
"I mean I am three hundred years old" he said calmly.Suddenly it clicked in Hobi's mind.
"That's why you don't want friends. You would outlive them all" said Hobi in a low voice.
"So... you believe me?" asked Yoongi, blinking several times.
"Why would you invent such a lie?" asked back Hobi.
"True" said Yoongi."Does this mean that you live all alone?" asked Hobi, slowly processing what an immortal life could mean.
Hoseok stopped to breathe.
All of his memories with Yoongi were extremely precious. However that particular moment, when Yoongi had decided to trust him with his biggest secret and burden definitely was one of the best moments in his life.To this day, Hoseok couldn't believe that Yoongi had chosen to break his rule for him. Not only had he shared his secret, but he also had accepted him as a friend.
Hoseok felt his heart sinking once again. Both despair and hope filled his whole body.
He had made a promise to Yoongi.
He intended to keep it.As Hoseok kept going deeper in his tornado of overwhelmed souvenirs, he didn't notice someone intensely staring at him, a curious look on his face.
~
"Can we talk?" asked Namjoon, as soon as the class was over.
"Sure" replied Hoseok, certain that it would be about a certain handsome Jin.
"I'll be going alright?" said Jimin, not wanting to bother them.It was almost lunch time, so as usual, the group of friends gathered to eat in the cafeteria. However, Namjoon didn't mean to join them so soon.
"Tell me" said Hoseok.
"We should go somewhere private" quickly said Namjoon.
"Okay" replied Hoseok. Then walked outside of the building, until the found a deserted spot in the park.
"Look, I'll be straight forward, okay?" announced Namjoon.
Hoseok nodded, kind of getting scared.
"I know it's none of my business, I know we don't know each other for long, but I can't help myself" said Namjoon.
Hoseok was frowning heavily by the time his friend had ended his sentence.
"What on earth was going on with you during that class?" asked Namjoon bluntly.
"What do you mean?" instantly asked Hoseok. In his seven hundred years of life, Hoseok had had the time to perfect his poker face. He was good at it. Today, he had been internally overwhelmed by the memories of Yoongi. He was absolutely certain that his face hadn't showed anything.
"I have never seen someone go through so many emotions at once" said Namjoon.
Wait.... What?
"How do you know?" asked Hoseok, serious.
"Oh, uh" said Namjoon, not finding words to answer.
"I didn't show anything. There is no way you could know that" explained Hoseok, waiting for an answer.Namjoon stood there, not saying anything. He apparently hadn't thought about that possibility.
"You're smart" he mumbled. "Usually people just instantly give in and tell me what's bothering them. They usually are touched that I noticed they were upset."
Hoseok squinted his eyes.
What is up with him?
"I'm good at discerning people's emotions" said Namjoon slowly.
"Yeah, I know, you observe them and are able to recognize physical cues linked to emotions" said Hoseok."That's not what I meant" said Namjoon.
