Emptiness

"How do we break Yoongi's curse?" asked Hoseok.

Jungwon stepped back and looked into Hoseok's eyes.

"I don't know" he said, trembling with his whole body.

Hoseok felt his heart skipping a beat, that couldn't be true.
Learning the truth about the person who had cursed Yoongi was already so much... now Hoseok had to deal with the fact that Jungwon didn't even know how to undo it.

"I'm so sorry" whispered Jungwon once more.

Hoseok didn't even hear it. He didn't care. If Jungwon didn't have any solution, how could he come up with one?

Hoseok walked away.

Perhaps Jungwon called him, perhaps not. Hoseok wasn't capable of feeling anything except from emptiness.

He unlocked the door and kept walking.

~

The morning sun was warming up people in the square. Some were just walking by, others were running to catch their bus, and some were sitting at the cafe, enjoying a warm beverage.

They were all ghosts to Hoseok.

Insignificant characters in an eternal life.

A never ending life he was cursed to live without his soulmate.

Yoongi was there. In the middle of the square, perfectly still. Hoseok couldn't even look at him properly. Now that he knew Yoongi was conscious in there, it was harder to deal with his failure.

But he deserves to know.

"Hey" said Hoseok, sitting right next to him, back on Yoongi's cold stone leg. "It's me."

His voice had started stable, however by the third word, it was trembling.

"I did as you told me" continued Hoseok, unable to provide more than whispers. "I asked Jungwon."

A couple passed by, sharing a bag of churros.

"He's the one who cursed you" finished Hoseok.

Until now, it felt like Hoseok was trapped in a distorted reality, like in a weird dream. However, now that Yoongi also knew the truth, he was clearly in a nightmare.

"Namjoon isn't there to tell me how you feel, but I think we're feeling the same thing" commented Hoseok.

So he proceeded in telling his other half the whole story. He didn't remember the exact words Jungwon and himself had used, so he did his best to relate the events the most accurately.

"It's crazy hu?" he asked, his head slightly facing down. "How he believed we were going to abandon him."

This thought had haunted Hoseok for the past minutes. He had swore to take care of Jungwon. He also had swore to be with Yoongi forever. Those two promises had never seemed incompatible to him.
However, they had been for Jungwon.

The young man had felt so threatened by Yoongi and Hoseok's relationship that he had decided to do something bad.

"You know what's worse?" asked Hoseok. "I want to hate him for what he did to you."

"But I can't" added Hoseok.

A long sight left his lips. He felt extremely bad about this.

"I truly hope you forgive about this" said Hoseok. "But he's still my little brother. He did a horrible mistake, don't get me wrong. But somehow I think I understand why."

"I just wished he knew how to undo it" added Hoseok, as tears filled his eyes.

Until now, he had simply told Yoongi what had happened in the last few hours. However, now was the time to reveal the biggest issue to him, and Hoseok didn't want to.

"Jungwon doesn't know how to break the curse Yoongi"

"I'm so sorry"

"I don't know how to save you"

"I'm feeling so lost"

"I..."

As if he was reciting a poem, Hoseok got lost in a loop of sorrowful sentences, repeating things over and over to Yoongi.
He didn't even know if he was crying or not, he clearly didn't care if people saw him sobbing at a statue's feet.

"Hey"

Hoseok frowned. He knew this voice.

"Let me sit with you" added the voice.

Hoseok had to blink several times to chase the tears away. Turned out that Namjoon had joined him.

"How?" he simply asked, with a low and distant voice.
"Jungwon texted me" explained Namjoon.
"Jungwon?" repeated Hoseok, not understanding.

"That doesn't matter now" added Namjoon. "What happened?"

Hoseok didn't answer. He had just finished explaining everything to Yoongi. Telling the story all over again was torture.

"Jungwon did this" simply said Hoseok.

Namjoon nodded, and then stayed silent for a while. That didn't bother Hoseok. He wanted silence anyway.

"So back to square one, if I understood Yoongi correctly" asked Namjoon.
"There's no square anymore Joon" said Hoseok. "If Jungwon, the one who cursed Yoongi, doesn't know how to undo all of it, how will we find out?"

"Don't loose hope, okay?" asked Namjoon, with a gentle voice.
"Hope?" asked Hoseok. "Hope?"
"We will figure this out" added Namjoon.
"Don't you see it?" asked Hoseok. "Yoongi is condemned to stay like that forever, and I'm forced to live eternally knowing that I was incapable of saving him."

Namjoon closed his eyes.

"Stay here" he said as he got up.

As if I would ever move from here again.

A few minutes later, he was back, with two travel cups, one in each hand.

"Drink some" said Namjoon softly, even though it sounded more like an order.
Hoseok did as told. The coffee tasted extremely good. The warmth of the beverage spread inside of Hoseok, somehow relaxing him.

"We need to think about everything from a new angle" said Namjoon. "With fresh eyes you know?"

Hoseok nodded. Namjoon was right. Yoongi would have never given up on him. Now, he had to be stronger than ever for him.

"I think I need to talk to Jungwon" said Hoseok. "Maybe he doesn't know a concrete way of saving Yoongi, but maybe something in the curse can help, right?"
"Did he explain what curse he used?" asked Namjoon.
"No" replied Hoseok. "But that could help, right?"
"I think so" confirmed Namjoon.

~

Hoseok had tried several ways to contact his younger brother, to no avail.

"Maybe he's at home" suggested Namjoon.
"I'm going back there to check" agreed Hoseok.
"Want me to come with you?" asked Namjoon.
"It's okay, plus it's lunchtime" said Hoseok. "You should go join Jin."

The instant blush on Namjoon's cheeks confirmed some theories.

"You two are good?" asked Hoseok, his smile back on his face.
"Absolutely" said Namjoon. "I know for sure that he isn't immortal, and it bothered me at first. But you know what?"

A large smile had appeared on his lips.

"I actually don't kind of care" he said, dimple in sight.
"As you should! Love deserves to be lived" said Hoseok, realizing something.

Love deserves to be lived. This is why I'll never give up on you Yoongi.

I'll save you.
