Dear Mom,

I haven't written to you in ages, I'm sorry.

Firstly, my little sister Felicia was born at Santa Clara Hospital last weekend, and she is beautiful. The best part was when we brought her home on my birthday!

Many weeks ago, I decided that Felicia would be too small to tolerate a party full of 11-year-olds, so I just had a tiny celebration with my parents, two slices of Nona's caramel pudding and that was perfect. I cuddled Felicia to my heart's content and watched her drift to and from sleep. I have included a charcoal drawing I made of her, in this letter. So you know, she is kind of gold and cherry coloured right now, with dark-greyish eyes. Overall, she is shaped like a soufflé, but I'm not sure my drawing shows this well. She smells of pancake mix and her nose is so small, that I think one nose booger would kill her. I check her nostrils regularly when I'm home.

I'm glad she was born when she was, because I've been in trouble all year, in school. Remember my plan to get closer to Gigli when I was a new pupil? It led to a clash with Lola, who had been Gigli's substitute best friend after Elena became mine.

I tried to make friends with Lola, but she's big into baby games. Her favourite pastime in the playground is "ride the pony" and she doesn't even like Maria Bethânia, who's simply the best singer on the planet. I brought in a CD and dad's player, so I could prove her wrong, but now she says she hates all Brazilian singers! After pretending to agree with me, Gigli completely sided with Lola, which was so unfair. I lost my patience at this point and told them we should probably go our separate ways.

I learnt from Elena's brother, Mateus, that their mum pushes Elena to make friends with all the kids in school. I spoke to Elena after this and she said Lola was who we needed to win over, and Gigli would follow.
