Hi Mum,
So here's the thing; some weeks ago, I invited Lola through the secret tunnel in the bushes that leads into the clearing that Gigli showed me.
Right away, she sighed that she'd been there a hundred times. I ignored this and I suggested we transform it into a garden. She pouted, then she said it was a dumb idea. I took it on the chin, and over the next few days, I brought over seeds and little cuttings from my garden at home with Elena. Even Gigli joined us and she seemed to love planting things there with us. Finally, Lola began to bring some seeds from her parents' veggie-plot at home. But yesterday, when we went back to our secret garden, we discovered that the sun had scorched every sprout to a crisp. Everyone was struck dumb, except for Lola, who crossed her arms over her chest and laughed: "I knew this was a terrible idea!"
I was so angry at those words that I started pulling out our scorched plants, all the way to the roots. Everybody got covered in dirt and the girls darted out of the tunnel, leaving me alone, sobbing.
Can I ever convince my schoolmates that I'm not a fool?
This morning, Gigli, Elena, and I had a chat. 3 out of 4 of us are sad about what happened and we agree the garden had been a nice project, even though it failed. In the end, we decided the garden would never work, since we aren't allowed to make one somewhere shadier. Lola turned up at this point, but without a word being said, we just left her behind and went to play on our own.
I thought Lola would play with some other kids, since most of them still play "ride the pony". But, instead, she climbed at the top of a tree and just sat there all recess.
Gigli's mum is now asking me why we're excluding Lola, since Gigli and Elena told her this was my idea, which is sort of true, but not exactly. After all, we all agreed that if we give in, then it will be nothing but ride-the pony-ville.
I'm prepared to keep my fuse in check if Lola can give me a chance. Or even better, maybe Lola could make new friends among the other kids and stop fighting me over everything.
Love
Zelia
