At this point, Purple Yam had already picked out the sticks, which he totally didn't give up searching for the perfect ones not even one minute in, and built the campfire. As of right now, he was trying to ignite the flames, using the dry leaves and one of the sticks he picked out from the pile.
So far, no success despite using all of his strength to lit the leaves. Yam snarled and, without a second thought, held the stick tighter and tighter until it snapped in half.
"This DANG STICK! AND LEAVES! UGHH!" Purple Yam yelled as he pounded his fist into the ground.
"Purple Yam!"
The brute immediately snapped his attention over to the source of the voice, only to see Milk Cookie running over to him. That angry frown of his quickly became a small grin, even letting out a small "Heh."
"WOW, Milk Cookie. This is your FIRST time not being LATE!"
Milk stopped in front of Yam and chuckled. "Aw come on, I'm not always late!" he said before sitting down onto his knees.
The denial from Milk made Yam roll his eyes before going back to starting the fire. "I BEG to DIFFER," Yam said. "Now put those jellies SOMEWHERE. I don't want you breathing down my DOUGH."
"Oh, ok!" Milk looked around. So far, he wasn't having the best of luck finding a nice spot for his hat and jellies. It feels as if both items will fall over and get ruined. "Um..."
"UGH! THESE DAMN LEAVES AND STICK!" Yam yelled before breaking another stick he took out of the pile.
Curious, Milk Cookie looked over Yam's shoulder to see what was going on. Huh, how long has this cookie been trying to light a fire?
It didn't take long for Yam to notice Milk right behind him again, or well, feel the cookie's presence. A bit of sweat formed, already Yam could feel those days when they first met. Geez, Milk Cookie was being a creepy stalker back then.
"Could you NOT?!"
"Oh, sorry!" Milk chuckled before scooting over to Yam's side. "May I assist you, Yam?"
There was a long silence from the warrior. He wanted Milk to help, but at the same time, that would be really pathetic letting someone like Milk help him. In the midst of this silence, Milk Cookie just waited patiently for Yam's answer.
A small grunt emitted from him as he picked up another stick. "NO. I'll do it MYSELF!" Yam declined. Currently, on his 3rd attempt, Purple Yam started rubbing the stick against the dry leaves; still, the cookie was using all his strength, but not even a whiff of slightly burnt dry leaves was in the air.
Milk Cookie simply watched. He knew Purple Yam Cookie well.
After a good 20 minutes or so, and still no results, Yam broke the stick and raged. "THIS IS STUPID! WHY ISN'T THE FIRE LIGHTING?!"
"May I try?"
Yam's attention quickly snapped to Milk again, seeing that dumb, goofy smile of his. Even though he still didn't want Milk Cookie to help him, Purple Yam knew that if he continued trying then the results will not change.
Filled with nothing but rage and defeat, Yam finally gave his approval. "FINE, do it for me."
"Ok!" Even though his movement was hesitant, Milk managed to hand Yam his hat before picking up a stick. Afterward, he started rubbing the stick against the leaves.
Yam watched, and already he could smell burnt leaves. His eyes widened, having a mix of shock and anger plastered on his face.
Within no time, a small fire lit up, and Milk Cookie backed away from the small flame. "There we go!"
Milk looked back at Yam, and immediately that happy smile of his quickly became a slightly frightened one.
Purple Yam was angered beyond belief. His face was contorted, clenching his teeth, furrowing his eyebrows as far down as he can, etc while snarling.
"Um... Do you need a moment?"
"NO, NO, I DO NOT!" Purple huffed. "WE CAN CONTINUE."
A bit of uncertainty loomed over Milk Cookie, but regardless, he went with Yam's wish. "Ok... If you say so," He said before looking at the growing fire. Milk stared at it for a bit before speaking up again.
"So, what do we use for as pots?"
Without any hesitation, Purple Yam scooped up a jelly, cupping it between both of his hands before putting his hands in the fire. Not even a millisecond, and already Milk Cookie was freaking out.
"AH! Yam, no! You'll burn your hands!" Milk shrieked, but Purple Yam didn't seem all that bothered.
"I went through the HELLFIRE! You THINK this puny fire will do ANYTHING?"
Yam was right. Even though Milk couldn't quite grasp how hot a hellfire is, he can conclude that it's much hotter than this fire. Maybe even hotter than Dragon Valley? Either way, there was nothing to worry about. Still, Milk Cookie was a tad bit worried.
"Well, um, ok..."
From then on, the two cookies made their hot jelly stew; it was almost a nightmare, Purple Yam wasn't exactly clean when it comes to things such as mixing and whatnot. It was a tad bit hard for Milk to find other ingredients, and although not an exact replica of the meal, it was close enough. Plus, when the food was ready, both Milk and Yam still enjoyed their food. Thank, Pure Vanilla that they kept those wooden bowls from another village; Milk still wasn't so happy about Purple Yam stealing them though.
The cookies were now preparing their beds, actually, more like laying around. Purple Yam was laying near the fire, readying to fall asleep. Meanwhile, Milk Cookie was sitting around, staring at Purple Yam.
No, Yam didn't like the fact that the guy was staring at him, but you know what? It's better than him being fast asleep, and even in the midst of his annoyance and being creeped out, Purple Yam couldn't help but feel a sense of serene that was countering all of those negative feelings. It just finally feels normal. Almost normal.
"Can you NOT stare at me? I'm TRYING to SLEEP!" Yam growled.
Milk Cookie chuckled. "Alright, I guess the campfire needs some attention too," He said before staring at the fire.
"Thank YOU! Now don't do anything STUPID because I'm going to SLEEP! GOODNIGHT," Yam commanded. After which, he closed his eyes, looking as grumpy as always afterward.
"Goodnight, Purple Yam!" After their goodnight exchange, it was just silence with the only thing disturbing it was the crackling of the fire.
Milk Cookie didn't feel all that sleepy. Well, he did, but since Purple Yam was fast asleep, he might as well keep guard for a bit, no? It's only fair.
Not even twenty minutes, and already a small yawn escaped Milk's mouth. Despite his tiredness, he still wanted to keep watch.
Unfortunately, this was where it all starts crashing down. His eyes were starting to feel heavy, and he was having a hard time trying to keep his straight posture. Still, Milk Cookie tried his best to persevere.
"Dear? Milk Cookie?"
Oh. Her.
A sudden burst of energy jolted through his dough as soon as he heard that awfully familiar voice; accompanying the sudden burst was a strong feeling of irritation. At first, Milk Cookie just wanted to ignore it, but he would feel pretty bad ignoring a cookie.
He looked to his left, and lo' and behold, Pomp Cookie was standing right there, staring right at him. "Oh, hello, Pomp Cookie," Milk greeted with a monotonous tone.
No greeting back, but instead, she gestured for the cookie to come over. "Come, I want to make up for what I did earlier."
There was a bit of thinking going in Milk's head, but eventually, Milk Cookie got up and walked over to Pomp. Out of anticipation, Pomp walked away and Milk followed behind.
There was no talking throughout their walk, and whatever Milk asked about, whether it be the destination or a simple "How are you doing?" it would always be answered with silence. Now, this was becoming a little freaky, where was she taking him?
Finally, the two got to their destination, and there lay a small field; it was filled to the brim with flowers. Although it was monotonous with what seemed to be only white flowers filling up the space.
Milk's mouth widened and his eyes sparkled upon witnessing this lush scenery. He looked up at Pomp Cookie, and she looked down at Milk Cookie. She could already feel the child-like excitement rosing inside Milk, and Pomp couldn't help but give him a smile.
"I agree, the flowers are very beautiful. If you want, you can go ahead and do it."
Heh, she spoke his mind. Milk Cookie ran off into the field, and it didn't take long for the little fella to blend into the flowers. Well, almost blend into them if it weren't for the blue colors on his clothing.
Pomp Cookie simply watched the little cookie frolic in the field, kicking a few flowers here and there, but it was cute and a little funny watching Milk attempting to replant those he accidentally kicked up. Made her chuckle a little.
After a bit of frolicking, Milk Cookie plopped down into the sea of flowers. He disappeared for a brief moment before, all of a sudden, reappearing as Milk sat up. "Come on, Pomp! The flowers are nice!" He urged, even gesturing to the cookie.
Pomp Cookie perked up a bit. She wasn't really planning to play around in some plants, so she was hesitant. "Oh, um..."
That damn cute face, Pomp Cookie just couldn't say no. She walked into the field, and just like Milk, she blended into the monotonous white flora thanks to her white dough and clothing. Almost blended in.
She made her way over to Milk Cookie, looking down at him. "I'm here now. Is there any--"
Before she could finish speaking, Milk Cookie picked up a flower and brought it over to Pomp. "I have a flower for you!"
Pomp stared down at the white flower, eyes slightly widened. "Oh, that's... very kind of you. Thank you." She said before gently taking it from Milk.
"You're welcome!" Milk Cookie smiled. "Now, is this what you meant by making it up to me?"
"Surprisingly, no, but you were having fun." Pomp Cookie sat down on her knees. "I didn't want to ruin it so soon, but it is best that I get to the point of this meeting."
Before she went on to do that, Pomp Cookie gently directed Milk to lay onto her lap, more so just her robe. Milk didn't fight back or anything, but it was a tad bit weird. Still, feeling the silkiness of the fabric was memorizing, relaxing even.
"I greatly apologize for my rash decision. You're right, I don't know your friend too well, and trying to bring such a judgment into you was my fault." While she was apologizing, Pomp Cookie lightly stroked the side of Milk's head that was closest to her. "I understand if you don't want to forgive me, dear; I just wanted to let you know that I feel regret."
The apology poured into his heart; it was just too sincere that Milk Cookie couldn't help, but feel nothing but forgiveness for Pomp Cookie for her terrible behavior earlier.
"Don't worry, I forgive you!" Milk smiled. "That was a very thoughtful apology!"
Pomp Cookie smiled back. "Thank you," She said as she stopped stroking Milk. "As to further my gratitude, I want to gift this to you."
A flower, just like the other flowers in the field, was brought in front of Milk Cookie. Despite it looking like the other flowers, it didn't have white petals like the other flowers. Instead, it had purple petals. "I think Purple Yam would like it."
With the beauty of the purple petals glistening in the soft moonlight, Milk Cookie's eyes sparkled upon seeing this beautiful flower. It was unique, and if it was yelling at him, it would honestly be the absolute perfect representation of Purple Yam!
Milk Cookie slightly lifted himself from Pomp's lap before he grabbed the stem of the flower. "Whoa... This is so kind of you, Pomp Cookie! I'm sure Purple Yam would love it so much!" Milk complimented.
"Aw, thank you. Just don't tell him it was from me, ok?"
Milk Cookie gave her a nod. "I'll make sure of that!"
"Good. Glad we were able to resolve some things tonight."
Just like that, the night went by smoothly. No troubles, no conflict, nothing. Just Milk and Pomp, relaxing in a beautiful sea of white flowers while Pomp hummed. It was relaxing to Milk Cookie, and it brought him nothing but great comfort and a sense of safety. It was familiar.
Nevertheless, the hum made Milk Cookie succumb to his tiredness; his head just resting on Pomp's lap while he was now dead asleep. Pomp Cookie didn't mind.
She stared down at the sleeping little cookie. It was adorable seeing him fast asleep, and just like other times, his adorableness made Pomp smile. But that smile didn't last long. Pomp slightly lowered her head as she stared off into the distance. Her hard glare didn't seem to have a sense of direction, but yet, in a way, it did.
"Do not get attached." Pomp Cookie thought to herself.
