After school Samantha and Jasmine met Emmett outside the school gate, and walked to the bus stop. Samantha was still shocked and wasn’t even paying attention to where she was going until she heard shouting. She looked up to realise she was standing in the road. A car had braked to a stop inches from her and Jasmine and Emmett were running across the road to see if she was okay.

“Samantha! Oh my gosh are you okay? I tried to catch you but you just walked right into the road” Samantha rolled her eyes as Jasmine went on and on. Finally she was overwhelmed enough to stop her.

“Jasmine its cool, it was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention-” She was cut of by a howl of laughter. They both turned around to see Emmett howling as he clutched his stomach laughing at them. Jasmine scrunched up her eyebrows obviously annoyed.

“What’s funny?” She asked putting her hands on her hips. Jasmine hated being laughed at, even if it is at cute boys with trilby hats and green eyes. But then she couldn’t stay mad for one minute. She calmed down instantly. Samantha laughed.

“Come on look, there’s the bus”

When they got to Samantha’s house her Mother was standing in the hallway waiting for her.

“Samantha” She started, eyes narrowing as she noticed the similarity between the boy and Samantha, but no, it couldn’t be. So she quickly put it to the back of her mind.

“I would like you to send your friends home and go up to your room, we have some things to talk about” Samantha ignored her Mother swiftly, she didn’t have time for her rubbish.

“Sorry, Mother, but this can’t wait. Where’s Father?” Her Mother sighed and put her hand on her forehead.

“He is not back yet, why. How comes you can’t tell me whatever it is?” She asked suspiciously. Samantha pulled up her head and said

“Because I don’t like you” Her mother stepped forward and then regained composure. Then she turned to Jasmine and Emmett. “In that case Jasmine and your friend, could you wait in the kitchen?” Her Mother kept on her face of innocence.

“Sure” Jasmine said dragging Emmett to the kitchen. As soon as they had gone Samantha’s Mother turned to her.

“Get upstairs, now” Samantha ran up the stairs as fast as she could in the means to lock her door. But her Mother was faster. She ran in straight after her and slammed the door shut, locked it, and put the key in her breast pocket. Samantha backed up into the farthest corner of her room. “What do you want?” She screamed at her Mother. Her Mothers face turned evil, and then she said “Remember what I said yesterday?” Samantha gawped back at her. Of course she did, it had been going round in her head ever since. “I’m going to make your life sheer hell for it.”

Her Mother stepped forward so fast that she didn’t even see her. She just felt the sharp sting across her face as her mother slapped her hard. Samantha fell back to the floor. And she knew Jasmine and Emmett would never hear her scream, because they were in the kitchen, the part of the house that wasn’t connected directly to the house. So then she curled up in a tight ball and prepared herself the longs hours beating that she apparently deserved. After all, no one else was home, so there was no one to save her.
