(I'll be using the lay out of the old and abandon elementary in my town for Ref)

It was ice cold on the hill you had laid down on to have a hawk's view of the elementary school. Hours fell by as you silently prayed that Amanda would show up.

Just as you felt like your fingers would fall off, a figure dragging something large started to make its way between the buildings. Quietly they managed to go through the double doors that led to the gym. Shifting back and forth in place I struggled to decide when to go in. Movement in the second story windows told me to move it or lose it. Sliding down the hill on my ass I held my hood up tightly. The freshly painted doors slid open without making a fuss. I was scared, looking around. It was cold, dark, and scary at night here. The bright blue and white walls felt like they leaned in on me. The metal sounds coming from upstairs didn't help one bit.

Around the corner the stairs rested in the corner of the building. Peering up to the second floor I scanned the rooms that were visible. The sounds were further down the halls making me curse luck. Halfway up the steps I felt like every shadow was moving; my hand slid down resting lightly on the holster of the gun. I can't kill her but I also can't let her know who I am. The best I could possibly do is slow her down and keep my hood up. My foot caught on the last step, whirling my arms to catch my balance, I pitched toward the floor. Throwing out a hand to stop my fall I felt a sharp wrench of pain in my wrist. I froze in place; the whole building had gone silent from me thudding to the floor. If it wasn't for the fact I skipped dinner, I'm sure I'd be holding back bile.

Once the sound of chains moving picked up again I continued down the hall stopping in every doorway to wait to see if they finished and went to leave the building. My left wrist burned and shot pain through my arm whenever I was tempted to use it. Holding my breath I looked around the final door. A small woman was hooking a half naked man's body full of hooks attached to chains. She turned enough to the side to get around the chains to the desk for me to see her face. It was her. Amanda filled a glass jar with nails and screwed a lid on with a bomb strapped on it. I didn't know much about how to set up these traps but it looked escapeable to me. It appeared the man would have to rip the hooks out and run out before the bomb went off sending nails everywhere. Sticking to the shadows I snuck into the classroom across the hall. Amanda looked done; leaving the room she paused at the door deep in thought. Reaching into her bag she pulled out a welder. I pressed myself against the desk near the door. 'Don't do what I think you're about to do Young' my mind said like she could hear us. Shutting the door tight she started to seal it off. Even if that guy got out of the hooks he wouldn't be able to get out in time. Taking one last look at her work she bolted off; waiting a few more minutes I made it out the front door.

A few miles away I took my hood off. The just-risen sun shone softly on the city streets, bringing with it a flurry of early-morning activity. Checking my phone I started into a tired jog. I had spent all night in that school. It had just turned seven when I made it into the house in time to change back into uniform. Downing old coffee from my counter I trudged out pausing on the handle of my car. Growling at myself for being stupid I had locked my keys in the car from rushing last night. To add injury to insult I hit my window with my left hand in frustration. It was already getting too late to be not heading to work; Sighing I began the long hike to work.

It wasn't long before a car slowed down beside you as you walked. You turned your head and the passenger window rolled down. You saw Hoffman in the driver's seat. 'Fucking great' was your first thought as you turned to face him. "Morning detective" you said trying not to sound like you pulled an overnighter. "Need a lift? It's not like you to be walking to work." I avoided his gaze "I locked my keys in my car". "Is that how you hurt your hand?" I did nothing but stare at him. Does he know? Did Amanda say something? "I tried getting in through the window. I couldn't get the hanger to grab the lock and smashed my hand". A shit eating grin appeared on his face "Come on, just get in the car. We have the same schedule today anyway. I'll drop you off after work". You opened the car door and sat down in the passenger seat, closing the door behind you. His car was surprisingly clean for the things he does.

he didn't attempt to make conversation with you. Which you were grateful for since your luck with everything hadn't gone well in the last twenty four hours; You'd probably blurt out your entire life story at this point. His car pulled to a stop at the front of the station. Do you want me to pay you back?" We stepped out of the car and he fixed his tie before glancing at me "No, but you owe me rookie." nodding you both made it into the building before seven twenty five. Going to your separate offices. You sighed, being extremely exhausted, not bothering to get anything out.

I wonder when somebody will find the room was your last thought before you fell asleep at your desk.
