Divergent- Four's Pov

Chapter 4

^Theo that better be a metaFOUR

After everyone had jumped, Lauren and I gathered up all of the initiates and brought them down the tunnel leading to the Pit. We stop about halfway through the tunnel so Lauren and I can divide the transfers and the Dauntless-born.

"This is where we divide. The Dauntless-born initiates are with me. I assume you don't need a tour of the place." Lauren says.

The group slowly breaks off and most of the people go with Lauren. I am only left with nine people. One from Abnegation, non from Amity, and quite a few from both Erudite and Candor. A pretty usual mix except for the Stiff.

I decided it's finally time to introduce myself.

"Most of the time I work in the control room, but for the next few weeks, I will be your instructor. My name is Four." I say.

"Four? Like the number?" I hear someone ask. It's the Candor girl who I recognize as being the second jumper.

"Yes, is there a problem?" Someone always comments on my names and its always a curious Candor. They don't know how to keep their stupid mouths shut.

"No."

" Good. We're about to go into the Pit, which you will learn to love. It-" I am cut off again by the Candor again.

"The Pit? Clever name." she says, smirking.

I walk up to her and lean close to her face, hoping to scare her.

"What's your name?" I ask.

"Christina." she squeaks. I scared her. Good.

"Well, Christina, if I wanted to put up with Candor smart-mouths, I would've joined their faction. The first lesson you will learn from me is to keep your mouth shut. Got that?" I ask her. She just nods.

I start walking to the Pit when I hear Christina again.

"What a jerk." she whispers. That girl seriously needs to shut up before I do something I may end up regretting in the future.

"I guess he doesn't like to be laughed at." I hear Tris reply to Christina. Smart girl.

" Oh, I get it." Christina says, when we arrive.

The Pit couldn't really have any other name that would suit it. It is surrounded by walls of uneven rocks rising several stories above us. Built in the rocks is where all of our Dauntless leisure activities take place, as well as where all of our supplies are kept. Blue camera dangle from the ceiling.

To most people they probably just look like colorful lights, but as did I, you learn while working in the control room that they are security cameras watching your every move. When I first found out, I must admit, I was a little freaked out at first, but I've grown used to it. A group of children run past us on a narrow path of rocks. Chaos I am not used to.

"If you follow me, I'll show you the chasm. It's s a huge space of empty rock that goes several stories down with a deadly river at the bottom. The chasm reminds us that there is a fine line between bravery and idiocy. A daredevil jump off this ledge will end your life. It has happened before, It will happen again. You've been warned."
