"Nice to have you back, Maddi." Mr. Coleman smiled as I entered my form room.
"Thank you, sir." I smiled back but my smile raised even more when I saw that Jake was back in his normal seat next to me.
"Hey!" I said to Jake.
"Heyaa. Maddi have I ever told you how smart you look in a uniform?"
"Umm.. noo I don't think so..." We both giggled. "You should see Amy in a uniform! She looks like a business woman!" I laughed even more but then I stopped when I said something that I wanted to know for a long time and that has been bugging me.
"You two are together, right?"
He scoffed. "Huh no! There's nothing going on between us!"
"Oh. It's just because you two are kinda always together so I thought tha-" I was cut off by Jake.
"Maddi there is nothing going on between me and Amy! I only stick with her because Dimmie is always with Sam, Jose is always with Kendall and you're with Aaron. I don't even like Amy in that way, I um... like.. someone else." He looked down.
"Oooohhh! Who??"
"I'm not telling you!"
"Why not?"
He blushed and paused before he continued. "Because it's none of your business!" He smiled.
I stared at his embarrassed face. Maybe it is one of the girls and he's too scared to tell me because they already have boyfriends. Maybe it is Amy but he knows that we are really close so he is embarrassed that I'll probably tell her. Maybe it is me! I cheer up at the thought but then I stop because I know that is really unlikely to happen because after all he is my best friend and it will probably get really awkward between us. But then also there is the fact that most best friends end up together in the end and get married and have kids and live happily ever after. But then why do I care? I don't like Jake! Or maybe I do. I dunno but for now I shouldn't even think about that because I have Aaron, even though he has hardly talked to me ever since we agreed that it was official.
I looked away from Jake and at Mr. Coleman who seemed to be listening to our conversation.
"Alright then, suit yourself! I'll find out somehow."
Mr. Coleman raised his eyebrow at me.
Jake was about to speak but the bell interrupted him and then he stopped talking as the people in our form all started filling up the room.
We were both silent for the rest of form and when the bell rang to let us out of form and to our lessons he walked straight out which was weird as he usually waited for me.
I got up and was halfway between Mr. Coleman's desk and the door when sir called me back.
I turned around to face him.
"You know that Jake likes you right?" His Irish accent really did amuse me, I just loved it as it was so weird.
I thought for a second.
"Sir I've just come back and you've already started the jokes, give me some time to settle it!" I laughed.
"As much as I love joking, which you know of quite well, I'm not this time! I'm being serious. I've know Jake for a few years now and he was always shy, quiet and actually looked pretty scared but that changed when you came. He changed into this happy, confident person. He lights up when you walk in the room. He absolutely laughs his head off when you two are talking which he hasn't done with another girl. He has changed since you came. Also why else wouldn't he tell you who he likes if it wasn't you because trust me you would be the first person to know!" He sounded really serious.
