I'm hanging out with Fuyumi today.

She originally came by to give me the flour I had asked her for a few weeks ago, but that quickly turned into hanging out.

Oh well, I'm cool with this.

"You and Natsuo have been dating for a little over a year, right?"

I nodded. "It was a year last week," I said. "Why?"

Fuyumi shrugged. "Just wondering. I was thinking about making you guys a cake or something, but Natsuo's always home by the time I get back from work, and I can't do it in secret as a surprise."

"You don't have to. We really didn't make that big of a deal about it. He just came over and we watched a movie, it was pretty much like any other date we've had," I explained. "Granted, we are also both broke college students so that may have had a play in it, but I don't mind. I honestly don't even like it when he takes me to restaurants. It gives me anxiety."

"Does he know that?"

"I think so. I assume he does since we haven't gone to one in a while. We normally use door dash or something."

"That's so adorable. You two are so cute together."

For some reason, I really don't like it when people compliment our relationship. I mean, it's nice to know that other people think we're good together, but it also brings attention to me and I don't like that.

But this time I just nodded slightly, cracking a small smile. "Yeah," I whispered to myself. I don't know what I thought, but it was something that made me embarrassed to think about because I shook my head and redirected the conversation. "So, anyone you're interested in, Fumi?"

She let out a tired sigh. "No. Every guy I know's a jerk. It's like middle school all over again with how bad these people are."

I chortled, shaking my head a little. "Dang, I'm sorry about that. Oh, that reminds me."

I stood up and walked to the kitchen counter where a gray spiral notebook sat. I took it over to Fuyumi, holding it out to her. "Natsuo forgot this here the other day when we studied together. I thought he might want it back."

"Because you two totally studied," she teased.

Her statement made me definitely not okay. I used one of my hands to scratch my cheek, then moved it to cover the bottom half of my face.

Fuyumi's phone buzzed, and she reached into her pocket to look at the message while reaching for the notebook. When I thought she had a good grip on it, I let go.

She didn't have a good grip on it.

It fell to the floor with a smack and opened to a random page.

Fuyumi's head snapped in my direction as panic flashed across her face. "Sorry! I just got an email and I had to make sure it wasn't important." She leaned across the couch and picked it up, continuing to apologize and explain why she wasn't paying attention. "It was just a . . ."

Fuyumi's brown furrowed together as she looked the page it opened to over. I glanced over her shoulder, looking for what had caught her attention.

Yonda Kurieitibu, ring designer ***-***-****. Round cut, simple silver band

My eyes widened and my breath hitched.

It was written in Natsuo's small and somewhat messy handwriting, letting me know that he had written it.

Fuyumi immediately slammed the book shut once she realized what it was. But I had already seen it and put the pieces together.

Natsuo's either already hired or is planning on hiring Yonda to make a ring. And based on that fact that he wrote down a specific cut, I'm willing to bet money on the fact that it's an engagement ring.

He's going to propose.

Oh my god.
