The truth is that I wasn't over Avery. How has she already moved on? Yes, I'm happy for her, but why am I stuck in the past whilst she gets to live out her happily ever after? I just felt so... helpless. I didn't know how to react to the news. I left the flat in a hurry, not knowing where I was heading. I still don't know where I'm going. I guess I'm just letting my feet carry me to wherever they please.
The park — the one we had visited just before Joker's attacks — was desolate and deserted. Like a monster from beneath a child's bed, the ominous sky crept over me. Dark, grey clouds thundered as they rolled across the dim light. Feeling lonely, I sat on the swing that swung gently in the mild wind. The blissful silence was disturbed by the ringing of my phone. I pulled the phone out of my pocket and was presented with Axel's name on my screen. When I accepted the call, I was met with a horrible surprise. The "hello, Amaya." seemed awfully familiar, only it definitely wasn't Axel's voice. It was one that belonged to a female, and that's when my brain was suddenly filled with flashbacks from when I was up in that tower a few years ago. The voice in my head was a perfect match to the one on the phone. My mind flooded with the memory of the shiny, silver knife that she bore, my blood dripping on the floor and a long struggle home. This is impossible. How was she calling me? Wasn't she arrested? My heart started to race and adrenaline pumped through my blood.
"Amaya." her voice called again; agitated, by the sounds of it..
"What do you want?" I replied. "How are you calling me?"
"I thought I'd check in on my best friend!"
"Oh, please."
"Alright moody Margaret, keep your hair on."
"Why do you have Axel's phone?" As I asked the question, something hit me. "Where is he?" I panicked.
"Aren't you going to ask me how I am? I've really missed you."
"Where is Axel?"
"Fine then, be like that. He's right here."
"Can I speak to him?"
"You're on speaker."
"Axel, are you okay?" I blurted. I stood up from the swing and began to swiftly make my way home.
"I'm fine, but whatever you do, do not come home."
"Are you crazy? I'm on my way."
"No, listen. I know what Sc-"
"Alright, time's up." Scarlet interrupted. Then, she hung up. My power walk became a jog and my jog became a run. Why would Axel tell me to not go home?
