The thing about everyone at the hospital is you have the highest of highs then the next moment you are experiencing the lowest of lows. This is what Luna was most scared of. For her experience in Seattle Grace wasn't like the others. From her very first day, she was scared out of her mind about whether she was going to live or not. This was also the reason she worked the hardest she could because you never know when your day is going to be your last or one that you will forever remember."The baby was born a couple of hours ago and it looks like a Tracheoesophageal fistula. Do you know that is?" Arizona asks Luna and Alex who were putting their jackets on.
"Yeah, it's the connection between the trachea and oesophagus. Fills the lungs with secretions." Luna said looking between the two. Karev who was struggling to put his jacket on and trying to listen but wasn't didn't make any face.
"Baby can have a hard time breathing and feeding," Karev added in.
"Exactly. Bentley Hospital is tiny. They can't handle it. So you two need to pick up the baby, bring her back, and then hopefully I'm done with the kid that's on its way in by the time you're back. You need to reconfigure the ambulance for intensive neonatal transport. And I think you should get someone else to go... Grey, ride with Karev and Shepherd. They're on the baby run."
"Well I have to talk to Derek" Meredith said grabbing her coat off Luna.
"Well, Newborn life hanging in the balance. Make it fast." Arizona said passing Luna and Karev some bags to help with the newborn.
They could all tell tonight was going to be a long one.
"Maybe there's an appeal process. Did you ask?" Derek asked rubbing his eyes from tiredness.
"I didn't" Meredith said biting her lip.
"You talk to the Lawyer?" Derek asked not wanting to accept they may have lost their kid.
"I just got off the phone with Janet," Meredith said exhausted.
"We'll appeal. We'll sue the agency if we have to." Derek suggested.
"They don't think we should be Zola's parents, Derek. They don't think I'm trustworthy, and they're not the first ones to raise that concern." Meredith said holding back her tears.
"Meredith" Derek said reaching out for her hand.
"They don't think I should be Zola's mother. She's Gone" Meredith said putting her hand in her pocket. She knew it was her fault.
"It's gonna be okay... we are gonna find a way" Derek said sighing.
"Zola was our baby and she's gone and I don't want another baby" Meredith said hugging Derek before getting into the back of the van. Luna was still loading in the bags of gear when Derek picked up the last bag for her.
"Luna, can you make sure she doesn't do anything crazy?" Derek asks her. But Luna could recognise the sheer amount of worry across his face.
"Yeah sure, wait Derek what's wrong?" Luna said out of breath after running around the hospital for the past half an hour.
"We didn't get Zola," Derek said with tears in his eyes.
"Oh I'm sorry, I'll keep an eye on her," Luna said before giving him a sarcastic thumbs up.
But what Luna was counting on was what would happen to her.
The residents were sitting in the silence between them all looked burnt out and Meredith looked sad nobody wanted to approach the subject.
