chapter 18 - how life works

- third pov -

su hyeok was at the very front, running his way to the first zombie appeared and swung his shovel to them. some many more reached the other kids. this obviously wasn't the first time they throw hands on the undeads and the weapons they grabbed wasn't the most helpful at killing zombies but it was at least better than nothing at all. lucky y/n for having the best weapon that helps her surviving.

everyone was doing the best fighting the smelly figures without getting bitten. ha ri and y/n catched a zombie on mi jin. they swiftly pulled them off of her and hitting them with ha ri's shovel before y/n finished it with a stab on the neck.

nam ra, breaking the monsters' necks with just her bare hands. her left eye turned red and wounding once again.

everyone were helping eachother everytime they almost bit someone, but they didn't seem to notice dae su struggling on pushing off the zombie on him before y/n use all her strength to kick them off.

su hyeok was found in the same position as dae su were on a few seconds before. nam ra threw a random sign, knocked down and leaving a wound on the creepy looking figure on her boyfriend. another one came to her before she grab su hyeok's shovel and stab it into their neck.

the same zombie that y/n kicked off got brutally smashed repetitively by dae su's shovel a moment after. y/n was suprised at what she just saw in front of her before turning back and finding her crush getting knocked over a zombie while she was stabbing another one. "mi jin!" y/n ran to them as quickly as she can. covering mi jin from the running zombie making the bloody figure got on top of y/n and facing her back. y/n herself was on a push up position on top of mi jin, preventing her from getting bitten. "no! get them off!" shouts mi jin from underneath. ha ri, wu jin and dae su was trying to pull the zombie glued on y/n's back.

mi jin was staring directly to her face. catching a desperate smile, not even trying to get herself off of the zombie before the same rotten figure found her neck and bite it. erasing the light smile on her.

that's when their grip on y/n was loosen and the others immediately pulled them back. the bitten girl fell to the ground in brutal pain while mi jin sit up, putting y/n's weak body on her thighs afterwards. mi jin was whining like she was the one that's bitten. "maybe this is what i get from stabbing their necks too much." y/n giggles as if she wasn't nearly dying. "no, you're fine. don't say that." she was sobbing while holding y/n's face.

- y/n's pov -

this is actually happening to me. i was dying in mi jin's arms. everything felt like it was collapsing, my vision's getting red and blurry, i can feel my sweat swarming me like a bunch of bees. the woman holding me was crying and it sounded like we're underwater. "mi jin. listen to me--survive. okay? don't let the others made the same mistake as i did." "shut the fuck up y/n." i ran my bloody hand to her face, pulling her for the last soft kiss. a goodbye kiss.

before i quietly reach for my knife just beside my thigh, hold on to it very tightly, "i won't let myself try to bite you guys." and stab the neck of myself. the pain doubled up when it goes through my neck but all that i care was i really don't want to turn into one of them and bite my friends.

"no! what are you doing?" i still hear mi jin screaming with her hand patting my face to keep me awake when i close both of my eyes leisurely.

- time skip -
- third pov -

they now reached the wide foggy road, still running without a destination. mi jin was zoning out, she was desperately running with ha ri. weak deep breaths coming out of her dry lips as they started running even faster with no energy left at all.

nam ra in the other hand was also suffering from staving herself off from eating her friends. her thoughts are convincing her to eat her friends. she was running at the back before she ran the opposite way, slamming her head a couple of times to the wall in front of her. "stop it." nam ra talked to herself. she was starving, the girl do not have the heart to eat any of her friends so she bit her hand instead and this wasn't the first time. she fell down to the ground from the pain she's feeling.

su hyeok and wu jin are still helping dae su when su hyeok realize that nam ra wasn't behind them anymore. "wait a second," "what?" on jo heard him and asked. "nam ra's gone." the four of them stopped walking while the rest was still going. "i'll be right back." said su hyeok running to the way nam ra had gone. on jo followed after him. "what are you gonna do?" the wounded boy asked her. "you go wait here with wu jin, i'll catch them up." she ran off, leaving dae su and wu jin again.
