- mi jin's pov -it's true, we were rescued. i walked with the others through the hall in a prison they use to keep all the survivors they rescued. we were all holding our stuff in small containers before heading to our cells.
all i was thinking the whole time was y/n. i already knew the sorrow of being a survivor. but, i didn't know how heavy that sorrow would actually be.
- time skip -
- third pov -"do you know the teacher, lee byeong chan?" a military woman asked ha ri. she was interrogating all of them. "i only took morning classes because i had training--so no, i don't." her friends were sitting behind her when she got interrogated.
"did he ever say or do anything out of the ordinary in the past?" the woman asked mi jin. she leaned forward before saying "that's not important at all right now. listen, i lost my gilfriend just about an hour before your people rescued us and you were barely doing anything too. so the only question i expect you to answer is how to get into college." she sighed.
"if there's anything you wanna say, just say it." hyo ryeong just stared at her without saying anything and still sobbing.
"how many times do i have to tell you?" dae su hardly swallowed his saliva. "he kidnapped a girl from our school named hyeon ju." he finished the sentence.
"i heard he gave hyeon ju some sort of injection." she continued asking, but it was to su hyeok this time. "why-why did you leave us there? you abandoned us." mentioning about the time they left him and his friends on the school rooftop.
"if you cooperate with our investigation-" she was cutted off by on jo, "no. i won't ask adults for anything ever again in my life. so please," she paused "don't ask me for my cooperation." said on jo firmly.
the people ordered to investigate the beginning of the virus spread was given up. the kids were let go out of the room they were questioned, to do their own businesses. none of them was cooperating with the investigation they were doing and disappointment was always the answer why.
apart from the kids as the survivors from hyosan high school, there were a lot more of them that were found and are staying in the same abandoned prison. a lot of them were leaving some notes on a grid wall about their grief, wishes and complaints from this tragedy.
they announce things needed to be heard from the prison speakers. scientists were also still working even further about this deadly virus.
- long time skip -
"the national assembly hearing on the bombing of hyosan has been postponed upon agreement between the parties--the party leaders announced in a joint statement today that they will not hold the hearing until hyosan epidemic situation has been resolved. the national security council announced that they will end martial law on hyosan today. this comes three months and 17 days since martial law was imposed due to the pandemic." mi jin and the others were walking their way to the hall, but opposite way this time. they were holding the same small containers of some stuff they have. "however, as a precaution, hyosan residents will continue to be quarantined." the other survivors were seen leaving their cells a moment later. "although it has been more than four months since the hyosan outbreak started, the korea disease control and prevention agency has failed to identify the virus since it is impossible to know its incubation period, the agency opposed ending the quarantining of hyosan residents. donations are pouring in from across the nation for the hyosan residents who have been living in quarantine for four months."
on jo walked outside the hall to meet by the clear blue sky, some stands for the survivors' needs and the small notes were still on the wall. people were also busy.
as the night comes, on jo walked to one of the back of a building no one knows. she was carrying her backpack and wearing a warm outer. "this notice is to remind you of the curfew times." an announcement was announced quite far away from where on jo was on. she then removed the lifted chair on an empty barrel, "curfew lasts from midnight to 6 a.m. the next morning." on jo lifts the barrel up a little before pulling out a long tied cloth rope, quickly tying it to the unused grid wall lying on the high wall seperating the prison from outside and throwing the rope outside. "during this time, please remain in your shelters." on jo ignored the announcement while throwing the rope for a second time since she missed the first time. "and refrain from moving around. this time will be used to inspect facilities and to clean by disinfecting the camp." she began climbing out slowly. "these measures are meant to protect you from infection and to ensure that public facilities remain clean for everyone to use." on jo pull back the rope.
she was now outside, using the flashlight her father left to light her way in the dark night. soft breeze was brushing through her skin. she then stopped to the view of a tree with some notes tied around the branches and a bunch of snacks sitting under the tree across the other one. 'i sak, i miss you.', 'nam ra, come back.', 'y/n, i'm sorry.' and 'cheong san, i love you' was some of the notes on jo specially written for the people they lost.
she began unzipping her bag, pulling some snacks one by one and placing them under the tree. she's been doing this for the past 4 months. on jo stared at the snacks before turning around, pulling out an old name tag written 'lee cheong san' on it. "i miss you, cheong san." a wisp of tears was formed in both of her eyes before she started walking off.
something has stopped her from walking back to the camp. she turned back, walking to the tree with some notes on it, still with her flashlight before spotting a bright yellow bonfire on their school rooftop. it was just a few kilometers away from where she was right now.

a/n hello!! i'm back after a few days of not writing. this chapter is mostly about nam on jo and i hope you're okay with that but yeah the book is almost ending, chapter 21 will probably be the last but todays author's note is really important.
this might not sound like a serious matter to some of you, but it actually is. this is about the scientists that have been trying to warn us about the global warming getting worse again which makes the ice at the north pole melts. if we are not doing anything this will cause the world to sink. we have 4-5 years more to fix this and i'm using my platform on here to spread awareness.
now, what can we possibly do?
we could simply do the following things :
- purchasing energy-efficient appliances such as lights, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, etc.
- turn it off when you're not using something (like lights, computers, televisions, video games and other electrical equipments.
- don't burn plastics and don't cut trees down so we could continue to breathe pure air.small things we do together matters to change what could really happen to the earth. so let's keep spreading awareness to others about this!
