[two weeks after the ceremony]

<Taehyung POV>

It was just like that night. The forest was so quiet, the moon was so bright. The fox was so close. Taehyung pounces on it and feeds from it, then spots two bright green eyes in the distance. I won't let you escape this time... He runs after the creature as fast as he could, but no matter what, he could not catch it. It gets harder to breathe as he keeps running and running through the trees, and the creature keeps getting further away. Come back... The creature suddenly disappears. Taehyung is now alone in the darkness.  He searches for the creature desperately, trying to identify its smell, but the more he tries to inhale, the less he can breathe. The dizziness takes over again as he runs out of air. Gasping for oxygen, the two green eyes appear again and he hears a laugh... Please, help me... The laugh grows louder and louder while everything fades. Help!

Taehyung suddenly wakes up, panting and sweating. It's just a nightmare... The same nightmare that reoccurs again and again, every night, since that day at the ceremony. He places a hand his forehead quietly as he catches his breath. Why does this keep happening? What does it mean? I need to find those green eyes... I need to know who this is and where I met them. I need to remember, I need to-  He gets interrupted by a loud noise.

"We're under attack!"

People are yelling in the hallways. He could hear knights running in their armours, and explosions outside. Panicked, Taehyung jumps out of his bed and runs to his window. Fire... Dark smoke was rising up from the trees, covering the evening moonlight with a black cloud. The woods were on fire.

Tae grabs the closest clothes he has and hurries outside. I need to find our leader! In a rush, he knocks on his parents' door, but no response. I hope they are safe. No time to waste. He runs outside where the knights are getting ready and spots his new teacher, the Kim leader Suni, in the crowd.

"What is going on?" he queries out of breath.

"An attack" she replies without looking at him while dressing up for combat. "The Jeons made a move. It's just what I feared..."

Taehyung's mouth drops... The enemy clan is attacking? Why? What did they do to provoke them?

"But... Why?"

"I was right. They are looking for something. I need you to do me a favour, Taehyung." she turns to him and looks at him dead in the eyes, taking a serious yet reassuring tone.

"Yes...?"

"I need you to guard the Dragon Cave, near the mountains. I want you to stay there until the coast is clear. Consider this your first mission. Understood?"

Guard the mountains? Seriously? How anti-climatic. Taehyung wanted to fight. He was about to protest, but Suni already moved on and walked away, leaving him behind with his 'mission'. Tsk... Fine. I'll guard your boring mountain.

"This is bullshit..."

Taehyung mumbles and complains to himself while sitting on a rock near the cave entrance. If only he could have been in the action, for once that something was happening. No, of course he had to have the boring mission, far from anything interesting. He's been sitting there for at least three hours and nothing at all had happened. Sigh... Whatever... I'll prove myself somehow. I can still fight. He stands up, annoyed, and decides to head towards the smoke. Sure, maybe he was disobeying direct orders, but he needs to show her he can be useful. Just you wait!

<Jungkook POV>

It has now been three hours that Jungkook was waiting for this Beta to leave. He was the only thing that could ruin the plan. If Jungkook couldn't get past him, then this elaborated distraction his father and leader caused would have been for nothing. Finally, they had located the bracelet and all that was left to do was to take it, but Jungkook had to be cautious. His father warned him about the potential threat this Kim Taehyung could be. There was definitely something odd about him... For three hours, Jungkook was observing him roll his eyes and sigh in frustration, clearly bothered, until suddenly... he stood up to leave. Finally, an opening...!

Carefully, Jungkook heads towards the entrance of the cave making sure to be as quiet as possible. Looking around one last time to make sure the coast is clear, he quickly hops to the entrance of the cave, light as a feather. He walks quietly inside of it, looking around at the walls covered in colourful and bright crystals. I guess that's why the Kim's territories have a good reputation. This place was so hypnotizing and beautiful, like straight out of a book, out of a dream...

He quickly snaps out of it and sets his focus back on his mission. The bracelet must be here somewhere. Looking around, the young elf makes sure to find landmarks to not get lost in this labyrinth of lit up rocks while searching for the artefacts. We're so close he keeps telling himself. Finally our victory is so close. Finally, mother, you will be avenged. Finally, I can prove I am worthy of-

"You shouldn't be here."

A voice arising from behind Jungkook makes him freeze. Damn it... Not now... Slowly, he turns around and ends up face to face with Taehyung. He can't help but frown in frustration, clenching his fists at the idea of this vampire being capable of stopping his plans so close to victory. Watching him stand up against him, so different from the ceremony, made Jungkook so angry. He knows this boy can't possibly win and yet he somehow felt scared to lose. How unusual... You will pay for this.

"I am going to have to take you to my clan. My leader will know what to do with you" he continues with a stern tone, keeping a serious face. Jungkook scoffs, amused by his sudden confidence.

"Yeah? I'd like to see you try. You couldn't even stand looking at me last time you saw me" he replies with a smirk.

Taehyung clenches his jaw, which makes Jungkook's smirk even bigger when he sees the provocation is working.

"In fact, I think even you know you can't win against me. You're just a little Beta" he adds, insisting on every word with a smug face to annoy him as much as possible.

"Shut up!" Taehyung snaps, unable to argue back. Jungkook took pleasure in getting on the boy's nerves, he even chuckles.

"Make me, then. Make me shut up. Prove me wrong, Beta!"
