<Jungkook POV>
The young elf was lying down alone in his room, staring at the ceiling deep in thought. Maybe now that his father and leader have what they want, Jungkook could finally rest. Since they are busy getting ready for battle, he could sneak out to the Kim clan to warn Taehyung, maybe even run away with him far from the clans and their stupid rules. Then again, was it safe to let the attack happen? What if the Jeons win and destroy everything? Though he dreamt of a day like this, he now resents the idea more than anything. Just the thought of causing Taehyung pain by destroying his clan is killing him inside. He refused to stand against Tae. All he needs now is to protect him somehow...
A knock interrupts his train of thoughts. Tired, he walks to the door and opens to find his leader standing there.
"Good work Jungkook. You deserve to be rewarded for completing your mission" starts Aesoo. Once again, this gave the impression to Jungkook that no one noticed his long absence... "As a gesture of my gratitude, I offer you a spot next to me on the front lines. You will be the one using the bracelet."
What?! The front lines? Jungkook freezes. This is just the opposite of what he wanted! His heart was racing... Why should I be the one to use the bracelet? Why would he have to see my face first? Was there even a chance to run away now? Jungkook felt trapped. He knew there was no arguing. He knew he couldn't escape the battle anymore. His leader has spoken.
Seeing the surprise on his apprentice's face, Aesoo explains;
"You have the blood of two races, hence your capabilities are better than any of us. You found the bracelet and are the best suited for this job. Congratulations." He was smiling when saying that last word. It wasn't a proud or happy smile, rather one of mischief and excitement; he was looking forward to the battle. Jungkook hated that. And to think I used to be like him... Only now he realizes how much he has to improve just to be worthy of Tae.
"Get your armour ready, kid. We're leaving soon." adds the leader before leaving.
Jungkook stares at the door silently. No way... No way... There is no way I have to fight Taehyung... I cannot hurt the man I love... Just in that moment, Jungkook realized how much he indeed loved the Beta. He loved being with him, watching him, listening to him... But that wasn't an option anymore. I have to act like I still want this. I have to fight. He keeps trying to convince himself that things will be okay, maybe somehow he could spare Taehyung, forcing himself to remember how much he wanted revenge, hanging to anything that kept him going for all those years. Only now he realized he was the bad guy. Only now he realized he doesn't deserve someone like Taehyung. Things aren't meant to work... Stop being so delusional... He hates you, you hurt him... I should give up on us and focus on my mission. I must finish this before my feelings get the best of me. He felt his whole world falling apart, but he pushed all those thoughts deep down. Time to stop thinking and start acting. Sometimes, the best choice is to do as you're told, and that Jk knew for many years. This night was going to be hell.
<Taehyung POV>
Taehyung was getting ready in the armory, a determined look on his face. He was going to teach this traitor a lesson. He knew his plan would work and maybe the Jeons would thing twice before acting like they can rule the world. He hated how arrogant they are. Even Jungkook thought it was okay to use him and bail. The anger in him intensifies every second. Every thought about Jungkook made his blood boil inside of him. Nothing but revenge mattered at this point.
Next to him, Namjoon and Seokjin were getting ready for battle too. They didn't dare to bother the Beta who seemed deep in thought. They gave him a couple of worried glances before Seokjin finally decides to talk.
"Hey, Tae, will you be okay? Jungkook will probably be there..." he asks softly.
"I'm counting on it. I will be the one to stop him." the youngest replies dryly.
"Tae, you're acting weird ever since he escaped from his cell... What happened between you two?" inquires Namjoon.
Taehyung turns to face them, upset by their questions at first, but when he notices the genuine concern in their eyes he calms down and sighs. There is a pause, where Tae hesitates to reveal the truth to his best friends.
"...He's my soulmate." he finally admits, looking down to avoid eye contact.
"Aw, Taehyung... I'm sorry to hear that..." says Seokjin with a sorry look. He places his hand on Tae's reassuringly. "You don't have to fight him if you can't..."
"I have to. Besides, that will teach him a lesson."
"Just know we'll support you no matter what..." replies Namjoon with a friendly smile.
Taehyung nods and gives them a grateful look. The three of them hug. Tae felt better after opening up and he knew he could trust his two friends to have his back. He felt a little better, and less worried about the fight. They're right... If Tae cannot fight him someone else could. He wasn't sure he could even face the elf again at this point. No. It has to be me. I am the only one who knows him and who can stop him.
After a moment, the leaders come out of their preparation room and address the apprentices and clan members.
"Tonight is a big night that will most probably go down in history." starts Suni on a serious tone. A smile slowly forms on her face as she takes a more motivating tone; "Do me a favour... Give it your all! Don't embarrass us in front of future generations! Let this fight be written as a win for us and an ass-kicking for the Jeon!" She raises her katana in the air and lets out a warrior scream, as the rest of the crowd copy her in unison. Taehyung felt ready. Unlike the night before, there would be nothing sweet about tonight.
