"Newt?", I asked quietly and carefully shut my book.
"We're almost there, love", he smiled.
I got up, trying not to lose balance on the small raft.
"Careful", Newt mumbled and grabbed my hand, helping me to find balance.
He softly grabbed my wrists and put my arms around his waist. I leaned against his back, while Newt continued to paddle us towards the coast.

"This is a historical night", I stated and looked into the sky, searching for familiar Starry constellations, but I didn't find any.
"We still have to be careful", Newt said and turned his head to look at me.
"With the world best magic zoologist, what could ever go wrong?", I smiled and kissed his cheek.
Even in the dark of the night, I could see Newt blush, while he hastily turned back around and kept on paddling.
Picket looked up to us and I could hear him snicker.
I carefully nudged him with my foot. He shook his head and mumbled a few words on how bad I was treating him, before he finally climbed up my leg and onto my arm. I smiled at him while he still ignored me. I felt Picket climb into my pocket, searching for a snack, I always carried with me for him and Teddy.
I heard him munching his cookie happily and then he finally talked to me again, saying that I was an amazing friend. I only chuckled and placed my arm on Newts shoulder, so that Picket could climb back into his pocket.

"Stop being mean to Y/N", Newt mumbled. Picket grumbled something back but I couldn't understand.

We stopped suddenly, when we hit the shore. Newt and I stumbled forward, while the case slid onto the gravel.
"Are you alright?", Newt asked. I nodded and picked up the case. I handed it over to Newt before we started to climb up the mountain.

A good half hour later, we had almost reached the chillin mother. Newt and I could hear her roars and grunts.
"She is ready", Newt mumbled and handed me the case. I took it and carefully followed him to the nesting position of the Chillin.

There she was. In all her mighty and beauty, the Chillin lay before us.
Newt immediately walked over to her, helping with the birthing process, while I pulled out my wand. Not only us knew of the importance of the chillin Babies, but also Grindelwald and his Minions.

"Newt?", I asked after the Chillin mother slowly stood up. She came walking towards me. I took a step back while eyeing the slimey egg on the ground where she lay seconds ago.
Watching with amazement on how the Chillin hatched, I suddenly felt a snout hit my cheek. I looked at the side and saw the Chillin mother. She cooed happyly and bumped her head into my side. I smiled and carefully put my hand in top of her head, gently caressing her cheek.

"You did great, Love", I mumbled and pulled out a cookie. She looked at it perplexed before finally deciding to try it. She gently nibbled at it, before taking a final bite. A few seconds later, none of the cookies were left and the chilin mother looked at us with glee in her eyes.
I chuckled and rubbed her cheek again. She sighed happy, But suddenly a spell hit her and she flew to the ground.

"NOO!!", I yelled and spun around. Newt did the same and got in front of the Chillin baby.

He spoke a protecting spell, but we had no chance.
"We have to run", I said, "They only want the baby, we have to protect it"
I eyed the mother on the ground. She was in immense pain.
"Come on!", Newt yelled and grabbed my hand. I picked up the case and we started to run, while the Chillin baby started weeping in Newts arm.
"Shit", I yelled after one of the spells almost hit me.
"This way!", Newt started running in wavy lines, trying to escape the spells.
"The cliffs!?!",I yelled over the roaring sound of the threatening spells.
"Just keep going!", Newt answerd.
So we did. But a few minutes later, I reached the cliffs. With Newt right behind me, he almost ran into me and we nearly stumbled over the cliff.

"Newt!!!!", I screamed, as I saw a spell coming right into our direction. I tried to jump out of the way, but it hit us right away. Newt took most of it, so as we fell down the cliff, he fell unconscious.

I tried to grab his hand, but...
We hit the surface of the water. My eyes closed for a second. The impact with the freezing water, blinded my senses. Up became down and left became right. Everything vanished.

But then, everything came back in a matter of seconds. I felt my head hit something rock solid and immediately, my eyes shot open. The pain in my head becoming unbearable, so I finally swam up. My head broke the surface and I yelped for air.

"Newt!?", I yelled, still breathless. I felt a warm liquid drop down my temple, but finally I spotted Newt. He lay near the coast, still unconscious. The case was next to him, but the Chillin was nowhere in sight.
"Newt!?", I hastily trotted over to him, trying to to fall over myself.
I sat down next to him and he finally started to open his eyes again.
"Y/N..", he mumbled.
"It's me-", I started and put my hand on his cheek trying to search for any injuries, but suddenly the wizards from earlier approached us and finally I saw the Chillin baby. It was not far away from us, but crying alone in the water.

"No!!", I yelled and got up. I started sprinting towards it, but a spell hit me.
I was send flying to the floor, but immediately got back up.

"Stay down"

I still got up:"Credence, you don't have to do this"
"You have no idea, what I have to do", He grumbled.
Suddenly, two of the others walked towards me and grabbed my arms, keeping me away from Credence who harshly grabbed the crying Chillin baby and pushed it into a sack.

"NO!! You're hurting it!", I yelled but a spell hit me again.
This time, I stayed at the ground, my head felt too dizzy to get back up.
"I'm sorry", Credence mumbled and looked down at me.
"Me too, Credence", I mumbled, "Me too"
He gulped and finally turned around, leaving Newt and me behind.

I lay there for a few minutes, trying to calm my breathing down, until I saw a figure appearing over me.

"Y/N", Newt mumbled. I felt him pull at my arm. He managed to help me stand up. Together we stumbled back to the mother.

Both of us fell down in front of her. She breathed heavily and immediately I knew that she was about to die.
"I'm sorry", I mumbled and carefully put my hand down on her snout.
She huffed but nudged my arm gently.
Newt carefully leaned against her:"I'm so so sorry"

A sudden cooing caught our attention and we turned around.
Another little Chillin baby came trotting towards us. Newt and I looked at each other.
"Twins", we said in unison.
The baby slowly walked over to us, while I felt the mother nudging my hand again. I looked at her and saw a tear escaping her eye. She looked at me and I nodded, while my own tears freely started to fall.
"We will protect them", I promised. The mother gently huffed before her slow breathing eventually stopped.

I looked down for a second, before a sob escaped me. This was not fair. It was nothing but injust.

"Come here", I heard Newt mumble and immediately I lay down next to him. I felt him put his arms around my weeping form. He gently stroke my back, while I freely cried into his chest.

I calmed down after a few minutes and lay my head down on his chest.
The chillin baby, climbed up towards me, also hiding in Newts chest. I put an arm around it and the little one, Immediately nuzzled it's head against my stomach.

I sniffled and closed my eyes. "It's alright", Newt mumbled, "It's gonna be alright"
I shut down the rest of the world, and only listened to Newt's heartbeat. I felt the distant movement of the Chillin baby, calmly breathing in the embrace.

While I saw the case next to us open and Teddy and Picket climb out, I allowed myself to close my eyes and finally rest a little bit. My head was still aching like hell, after the collision with the rock. And in Newt's strong arms and the Chillin right next to me, I was lulled to sleep easily.

"Newt", I mumbled one last time, before my eyes closed and I finally allowed myself to rest.
