Chapter 5: Wrong and Right

In the girl's dorm. Peter and Brett knock on their door and Stephanie opens the door. "You girls ready?" Brett asked. "Almost, Katherine is putting on a necklace, then we'll be ready to go," Stephanie explains with a smile. "You guys are welcomed in," Cassandra yells from the living room. A few minutes later, Katherine is still not out of the bathroom yet. "I thought you said Katherine was just putting on a necklace," Peter says.

"That's what she said," Stephanie says. "I'll go check on her," Peter says, getting up. "Be careful. You never know which side of Katherine you'll get." Brett says. Peter knocks on Katherine's room. "Katherine, can I come in?" Peter asks. "S-Sure." Katherine answers. Peter opens the door and sees Katherine looking at the floor, wearing a white, turtleneck sweater and gray leggings. Peter sits next to her, and Katherine rests her head on Peter's shoulder. "You okay?" Peter asks, putting his arms around her waist. "You and Brett worry too much." Katherine jokes with a smile.

"We do, because we care. Remember when-" Peter starts. "I know, I know. That was just a freak accident and that was 5 years ago." Katherine interrupts. "Katherine..." Peter hesitates, then signals her to turn around. Katherine turns around and hands Peter her necklace. Peter moves Katherine's hair and puts on the necklace. "Where'd you get this necklace from?" Peter asked. "It doesn't matter. Let's go see the movie." Katherine says trying to change the subject. Katherine leaves her bedroom and Peter follows her out.

Halfway through the movie. Cassandra is sitting next to Katherine and a minute later, Cassandra kicks her bag over to Brett who was sitting on the far right. Brett takes her phone and puts it in his pocket.

After the movie, Katherine realizes that her phone is missing. "Guys, my phone is missing!" Katherine says in a slight panic. The Squad start acting. "When was the last time you saw it?" Cassandra asked. "When Peter and I were in the library." Katherine says. "The library will be closed, because of Labor Day Weekend." Stephanie states. "Well this is just awful!" Katherine belted.

"Hey, it's okay. We'll find it when we return. Until then you 3 just focus on packing the rest of your stuff. We'll be in the parking lot of your dorm at 6AM tomorrow. We'll see you girls in the morning and we hoped you enjoyed the movie." Brett says as they pull up at the girls dorm. "What would I do without you guys? I rather have you 4 as my only friends than having 40 friends that are untrustworthy and liars." Katherine says, very sincere. The 4 friends exchange nervous looks and Katherine hugs her 4 best friends and they hug her back, but all four of them felt really guilty going back to their rooms.

At 11PM, Peter and Brett are still awake along with their guilty thoughts. "Brett..." Peter stands in the doorway of his brother's room. "Yeah?" Brett inquired. "Is what we did wrong?" Peter asked. "I thought I knew whether or not this was wrong...now I'm not sure." Brett responds. "Do you think Melody is awake?"

Peter and Brett call Melody. "Hello?" Melody says into her phone, before putting them on speaker. "Melody,...if you took your best friend's phone, because you want to find out what she was hiding, is it wrong?" Peter asked, feeling a lot more guilty. "Is this about Katherine, Pete? Did you steal her phone?" Melody asked.

"...Yeah" Peter says softly. "Do you regret it? Does it feel wrong?" Melody inquired. "...Kinda." Peter finally says.

"Then you don't need to ask me what you already know." Melody answered.

"Thank you, Aunt Melody." Brett says, while looking at Katherine's phone.

"I love you, my sweet twins." Melody says sweetly. "We love you too, Melody."

The next morning, Peter and Brett show up at the girls' dorm and wait in the car. "If we tell Katherine that we stole her phone, do you think she'll storm off?" Brett asked his twin." ...I believe that she will be ultimately disappointed in us, but proud that we were honest." Peter states with uncertainty. "You really believe that?" Brett asked. "I believe we'll be dead by the end of the weekend, because Katherine is going to run us over with her brother's car." Peter states as the girls come out of their dormitory. "Hey guys." Katherine says. "Hey girls." The twins say.

An hour later, the 5 of them are on a plane. The Squad of 4 decides that they should be honest with Katherine and admit what they did when they land. "So, who wants to break the news to Katherine?" Stephanie asked the twins. "Why are you asking us?" Brett asked. "She'll be calmer if it comes out of her favorite set of twin brothers." Stephanie explains. "We'll just have to see." Brett says as he looks down at Katherine, who's sleeping with her head on his shoulder. He kisses her head and whispers, "Please don't be mad at us." Katherine moves around a little. Then Brett thinks of all the possible things that could happen if they tell Katherine that they are the ones who stole her phone. His thoughts are interrupted when Katherine says

"Love...you." Katherine goes back to her deep sleep. "I love you too, Katherine." Brett says softly. "Brett, if we just go ahead and tell her when we get to Colin's house it'll be done and over with and we won't have to live with all of this guilt." Cassandra says, trying to comfort him. "Thanks Cassandra." Brett says.
