Chapter 12: The Marriage?

Scott has spent an entire 24 hours trying to translate the note from his father. He's only decoded a small portion of it.

When you feel safe...

that's when you should

Escape.

Scott looks around the room he was in and sneaks downstairs and doesn't see anyone except for Daniel. "Hey, Scott." Daniel greets. "Where is everyone?" Scott asks. "Looking for Katherine. I've known her since she was a baby..." Daniel explains.

"It must be hard on you." Scott says with sympathy.

"It's even harder on Aaron...So um, Colin told me that you were busy translating a note he found in the window. How's that going?" Daniel changes the subject. "It's going okay, but I've only got a tiny portion of the note translated. This is going to take me absolutely forever." Scott responds. "You're a smart kid. You'll figure it all out." Daniel smiles. "I guess, I just wish there was an easier way to translate it." Scott exclaims. "What does the part you have translated say?" Daniel asked. "It said 'When you feel safe that's when you should Escape.' I have no idea why whoever sent that is telling us this." Scott says, confused. "We'll tell your father then tell Aaron and Melody." Daniel states.

Katherine and Rhett are sitting in their room, while Phoenix and Melissa went out. "I cannot believe that you don't trust me." Rhett exclaims. "I just don't know who I can trust. I just got here." Katherine explains. "Okay, that I understand. What can I do to gain your trust?" Rhett asks with sincerity. "Can you keep a promise?" Katherine requested. "I always keep my promises. No matter what they are and no matter how big the cost is." Rhett clarifies. "Then promise me that...that you'll be honest and patient with me." Katherine says, trying to make out his expression. "I promise, Katherine." Rhett vows. "So, now that that's out of the way...what do you want to do today?" Katherine requested. "What do you want to do?" Rhett asks, smiling at the girl in front of him. "I want to do whatever you want to do." Katherine tosses back. "Well, I want to do whatever you want to do." Rhett says. "Fine, let's go to the river. Let's change before we go." Katherine states as the two of them go upstairs to change.

Once they arrive at the river, they sit by the river and listen to the wildlife around them. "What do you do when you're not home?" Katherine requested as she lays her head in his lap looking at the river. "Nothing really. I run a few errands for my boss, then I come home to you." Rhett says, placing his hand on her stomach, sending warmth through her ice-cold body. "Now I have a question for you...Who was the mysterious guy you were talking to me about yesterday?" Rhett questions while Katherine sits up and leans against a tree. "His name was Peter. He was my best friend along with twin brother Brett...They were kind of like you in a way." Katherine explains, not looking at Rhett's expression. "So, I remind you of your past...that's what you're telling me?" Rhett asks, avoiding eye contact with Katherine. She slightly nods.

For the next few minutes they don't speak or look at each other. Katherine gets up, takes off her gloves and shoes, and steps into the water. Rhett glances at her in the water and she signals him to go into the water with her. Rhett gets up and stands near the river, but not stepping into the water. Katherine steps farther into the water, knowing that Rhett would follow her into the water. Rhett takes off his shoes and raises his pants and steps into the water. Then, she takes off her ring, tosses it to Rhett, and he places the ring in his jacket, takes the jacket off, and places it with his shoes. Katherine takes another big step back and the water reaches her waist. Rhett steps in front of Katherine and wraps his arms around her waist and she wraps her arms around his neck. "Caught you...and I'm not letting you escape from my grasp." Rhett states, possessively. "I'm not going anywhere, Rhett...not without you." Katherine says just as possessively. Rhett places one hand on her waist, the other slightly behind her neck, and kisses her. Katherine kisses him back and runs one hand through his hair. Once they pulled out of the kiss Katherine asked him if he loved her. "I do...I do love you. I've loved you for longer than you know." Rhett confesses.
