Ten years. How the hell did I manage that? It had been ten years since he first asked me to work for him. Ten years since I agreed. Ten years since I sealed my fate as one of his loyal dogs. I thought I would just be a bartender as I was for Vander, but I was wrong. I ran errands for Silco on many occasions, many of which had something to do with Shimmer. I delivered it, sold it, and I even dealt with making sure all the money was in order. He trusted me.
It wasn't until a few weeks after our first meeting that I realized he was the man that had taken Powder in. As the years went by, Powder grew into a beautiful young woman, but her trauma completely ruined her mental state. She heard the voices of her lost friends taunting her. She spoke to me of them a few times after she started talking to me again. I didn't understand how she latched onto Silco so quickly, but I assumed that had something to do with the abandonment issues.
As the years went by, I, too, began to resent Vi. I couldn't believe she left her sister alone. Powder took her words and used them to make herself stronger. Vi had called her a jinx, so that is what she became. Jinx. Personally, I adored the name.
The Last Drop completely changed. It became less of a bar and more of a club. People hardly bought drinks anymore, they were too busy guzzling Shimmer. The music was loud and intense and people would dance around like idiots until they dropped. Needless to say, I spent more time cleaning than I used to.
Silco added an office space above the bar area. He hardly ever left that room. He would sit in his gilded chair and mull over paperwork while smoking a cigar and drinking whiskey idly. When he needed me, he would call for me or send Sevika to fetch me.
One night, after business hours were over, Sevika came down to get me as I was finishing up the cleaning. "Silco needs you." That was all she ever said to me. Then she would give me a smirk and walk away. I walked the familiar path up to his office and knocked on the door. "Come in," his voice sounded from the other side of the door. I opened the door slowly and walked inside. "You asked to see me, sir?" I fidgeted with the dagger attached to my hip. He flicked his gaze up to me before returning it to his paperwork. He took a sip of his drink and gestured for me to sit.
I walked over and sat across from him at his desk. I looked over all the designs Jinx had drawn on his ashtray and smiled to myself. "She's quite the artist," he said, snapping me out of my thoughts. I hummed in agreement. He put down his papers and picked up a cigar from his glass case and clipped off the end. He looked down at his lighter, which was closest to me, and then he looked up at me as he leaned over the desk, cigar in his mouth. I picked up the lighter and lit it. He smirked and took a deep inhale and sighed. "You've been working for me an awfully long time," he said slowly, "I've grown impressed by your consistent loyalty. Do you know how hard loyalty is to come by?" I nodded in response as he continued, "I have put my trust in you, and you have not failed me," he took another puff, "I think I should reward you for that."
I looked at him in surprise. How could he possibly reward me? "I- that's not necessary, sir, I'm simply doing my job." He chuckled, "Your modesty is refreshing, my dear." I felt a tingle in my cheeks at the familiar pet name. I had hated it at first, but had since grown accustomed to it. "Do you have any suggestions on how exactly I should reward you?" I looked up at him again, "Y-You're asking me?" He nodded slowly. I thought for a moment. I didn't need anything, I was well-paid, I had a good job, but he wanted me to tell him what I WANTED. What did I want?
I hadn't grown up with much. My parents died when I was young and I grew up on the streets. I never thought about what I wanted. Only what I needed. Silco cleared his throat, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Having trouble, are we?" I gulped, "I don't need anything, sir." He tilted his head, "I didn't ask you what you needed, now, did I?" I started to fidget with my fingers, "Well, I don't really WANT anything specific, either..." He leaned forward again, searching my face for something. He narrowed his eyes and leaned back in his chair again. He patted the edge of his desk in front of him. "Come here."
My face grew hot. What the hell did he want me to do? I came around the desk as he spun his chair to the side. Why did I always have to follow his orders? I sat on the edge of the desk as he instructed, and began fiddling with my rings again. He seemed satisfied by my immediate obeying. He turned toward me and scooted closer. I felt my breathing quicken. He reached next to me and opened a drawer, pulling out two pieces of a mechanical object of some sort. He clasped the pieces together and handed them to me.
"W-What the hell do I do with this?" He smirked and tapped underneath his eye. My heart dropped. He wanted me to inject Shimmer into his eye. If I messed this up, I was dead.
(A/N: hehe yeah long chapter woohoo! Uhhh ignore the fact that I'm now obsessed with this story and feel a strong need to keep writing it- I hope you're all doing well!)
