Back in her regular clothing, Crystal navigated through the hallways of the school alone. One person was on her mind, Corsen. She and Corsen hadn't spoken in a few days, but Crystal figured that if anyone could help her with her mother, it would be him.

There was one stop Crystal had to make on her way to her cousin's dorm, however.

She had to deliver the invitations to the V.Ks.

The official-looking invitations that were imprinted with her family's blood-red seal felt hot in her hand as she walked toward Mal and Evie's dorm. They felt like they carried some kind of weight.

Maybe it was because she would have to face Carlos again. The thought made her heart flip.

Crystal didn't know what was happening to her anymore.

She barely knew this boy.

When she first met him, she saw him as nothing more than a goofball who was the little brother of the V.K group.

Now, she suddenly felt so strongly about him, and why?

Because he showed her a little bit of kindness on the day Crystal told the V.Ks she would help them steal Fairy Godmother's wand?

"Crystal!" A voice cut through Crystal's thoughts. She shook them off and whirled around to see Ben jogging towards her.

"Hey," She greeted him casually. "I thought you went home."

"I was going to, but I wanted to check with you and see how Carlos was!"

Crystal gritted her teeth. Why must everyone speak about the things she was trying to avoid?

"He was fine," She lied. "He and Dude get along well."

Ben's smile grew even wider, and Crystal told herself to relax. Ben hadn't done anything. It wasn't his fault Crystal didn't know what her heart was trying to tell her.

"That's great!" Ben exclaimed. His eyes traveled down Crystal's arm and settled on the invitations in her hand.

"They're for the V.Ks," She told him as she saw his eyes, holding them out so he could see the names printed on them in lopping, gold text. "They're invitations for the Northuldra Ball next Thursday."

"Oh, yeah! Our's came in the mail yesterday," Ben exclaimed again, and Crystal felt that his smile was much too enthusiastic.

Crystal felt no excitement as she thought of the ball. Instead, it brought a feeling of dread that was so heavy, that it was almost paralyzing. "I'm headed over to Mal and Evie's dorm now if you wanna come with me."

Ben nodded and followed her down the winding hallways. Crystal stopped at the familiar door and took a deep breath, raised her fist, and knocked. The door practically swung open to reveal Mal, looking almost annoyed as she looked at Ben. Her gaze flipped from Crystal, and her expression changed into something else. Something that made Crystal feel uneasy.

"C, come in! This is important." Mal grabbed Crystal's shoulders and pulled her into the room, shutting the door in Ben's face.

Crystal was quick to pull away from Mal's grip. She kept herself by the door and took a look around the room. To her surprise, Jay and Carlos were also in the room with Mal and Evie.
