Bucky's Story.
Before I could react, Steve grabbed Tony by the collar of his shirt and hoisted him into the air. Even if I wanted to intervene, the fiery look in Steve's eyes was enough to keep me seated and still.
And then...
I froze. Tony looked scared. Really scared.
He looked like Howard Stark did just before I...
My head cracked right down the middle. An agonized scream erupted from the bellows of my stomach. I remembered it so clearly. The smells, the sounds, the sun, the screaming... It was all right there yelling back at me. I felt my body go stiff as another ear splitting scream exploded from me. And then the room started to shake. No, no. That was just me. Or what is the room? I grabbed my throbbing head, screeching in anguish.
And then I heard him. So soft, so tender. Steve.
"Breathe," he whispered, stroking my matted hair.
"It hurts." Tears started to sting my eyes.
Steve frowned. "I know." He brushed his thumb across my cheek, wiping away the slipped tears. At his touch, the searing pain coursing through my body faded away to nothing more than a soft hum in my head.
Somewhere behind us I could hear Tony frantically scrambling around his lab and muttering curses under his breath. He kept asking Steve what triggered the episode I was having, and I cringed every time Steve said he didn't know.
But something in Steve's eyes told me he did.
