Tomura recovered faster than Twice or Dabi had expected. He was still bed ridden for two weeks which he hated. Tomura liked to do things to keep him busy. It helped distract from things he didn't want to think about. Now all he could do was let his mind idle. Unless, Dabi stopped by to talk to him.
Dabi stopped by often during the day to check up on Tomura or just spend time with him. Those were the moments Tomura relished. Tomura had been able to walk around a little bit with the assistance of Dabi. He slowly regained strength in the three weeks they were there.
His arm still hurt occasionally but most of the pain was gone unless he touched it or tried to lift something with it that wasn't paper light. It was practically useless which made Tomura mad. "We can't stay out here forever." Dabi said one afternoon as he sat down by Tomura on the couch.
"I know that I'm desperate to get out of here." Tomura grumbled as he stared at the wall. He was tired of it he never wanted to see the color yellow again after this. "I heard rumors from a few old drunk men." Dabi said he sounded serious. Tomura didn't know why he was being serious about that.
"Then it's probably not important." Tomura said confused why his friend would bring it up in the first place. "They were talking about how All For One was recovering slowly with some mysterious doctor." Dabi said that caught Tomura's attention. "It's probably still fake but if he is..." Tomura said cutting him off.
"He's also evidently declared war on the Light kingdom." Dabi said he waited to see Tomura's reaction. "No." Tomura said he stood up quickly. "Where are you going?" Dabi asked Tomura he started walking out of the room. "If he's declared war we need to stop it." Tomura said he already had his foot in the saddles stirrup.
"Have you forgotten that you got shot not that long ago?" Dabi asked in disbelief. "You always fight yet your in pain. Don't think I don't see how you grimace and try to hide your hands after you use your fire." Tomura said glaring at Dabi stubbornly. Dabi's eyes widened his hand turned into a fist.
"Shut up let's go." Dabi growled he pushed Tomura aside as he mounted the horse. Tomura stared at Dabi in shock at his sudden burst of anger. "Well get up here we don't have all day." Dabi snapped he held out his hand to Tomura. Tomura avoided eye contact as Dabi pulled him up careful by his unwounded arm.
They rode in silence for a little while. It was killing Tomura he was tired of science. He also found he didn't like it that Dabi was mad at him. Which was new to him because he usually didn't care what anyone thought of him. Not even Kurogiri who raised him most of his life.
"I'm sorry." Tomura said quietly. So quiet Dabi would have missed it had the only other sound not been the horse walking. "Excuse me what?" Dabi asked like he hadn't heard. "I said I'm sorry you bastard!" Tomura shouted. Dabi grinned with satisfaction he turned around to grin at Tomura.
"Thanks for the apology crusty bitch." Dabi said he was amused. "I'll shove you off this horse." Tomura threatened glaring at Dabi. "Sure you will you and your one arm." Dabi said he laughed when Tomura punched his shoulder. "Are we good now?" Tomura asked not liking being the object of Dabi's teasing. He supposed he deserved it. That still didn't make him like it any though.
"Yeah we're good." Dabi said he sent Tomura a fond look before returning his gaze to the road. Tomura felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders as they rode along in a new kind of silence. This one wasn't stifling it was the peaceful kind. The one where you were so comfortable with someone you both didn't need to talk.
They rode at a slow pace until dark. Tomura protested but Dabi said if he wanted to go back to the palace he'd have to do it slowly because of his arm. "Do you think Twice knows were gone?" Tomura asked curiously as Dabi sat up a fire to cook their dinner over.
It also helped with the cold. The season was changing from the warm months of Spring and Summer to Autumn. Tomura pulled his waist coat closer to himself as if that would help. Dabi sighed he sat down beside Tomura. "I don't know. He might who knows with that crazy bastard." Dabi said shrugging.
Tomura didn't respond he huddled into Dabi's side. The man was admitting heat like he always did. "You're like a leech when you get cold." Dabi said amused as Tomura cuddled more into his side. "Shut up it's not my fault your a furnace." Tomura grumbled.
Over the next few days they made the slow trip to the palace. "Their is actually going to be a war if we don't pick up the pace." Tomura whined. "We aren't going any faster so you might as well stopped complaining." Dabi snapped irritated. Tomura could act like a child sometimes. No one wanted to know how much he had to hear the classic are we there yet.
Four weeks after their trip they were finally back into the capital. People stared at Tomura and Dabi as they rode threw the village. People whispered to one another or openly declared his return. People surrounded them trying to talk to him asking him where he'd been. Dabi threatened to trample them with the horse some of them reluctantly moved.
Others who weren't as wise got a blast of fire aimed at them. Dabi missed of course he almost wished he hadn't. "That's not going make people like us as rulers." Tomura scolded Dabi. Dabi chuckled, "You ain't much nicer creep." Dabi said he stopped talking as they came into view of the palace. "This is it." Dabi said as he stared at it a chill went down his spine.
