Your POV

Hi there, my name is (Y/N) (L/N), and ever since junior high, I have always been cold-hearted towards people, and they would start to avoid me like the plague. Because of that, I earned the title: the aloof student. That title stayed with me throughout my junior high school days, and now, said title lives on.

I am now a third year high school student, and like always, no one wants to be near me. Well, that's fine by me. I don't expect a lot of people to talk to me anyway, and I have no intention of doing the same.

However, that title would fade away into the past thanks to a band called Hello, Happy World!, a group that's all about making people smile. I never knew why they were wasting their time with me, but I was able to see why soon enough...

This is where our story begins.

Location - The Park

I had a busy week, and I figured I should take it easy by taking a nap at the park on one of the benches. This was nice, being to relax without a care in the world. However, I am sorry to say that this peaceful moment didn't last forever.

As I am resting, I began to hear some voices nearby.

"Alright, everyone! The Smile Patrol is ready for some action!"

Don't acknowledge it, (Y/N). If you ignore it, it'll go away.

"Yay!"

"Hey, maybe we should keep it down. It's still early in the morning, you know."

Ugh, thank you.

"Yeah, but I feel like there's someone here who needs to smile."

"Like that person over there?"

Are they talking about me?

"You mean the one sleeping on the bench?"

"Yeah, him."

Dammit, they're talking about me. Before I knew it, I felt my cheek being poked. They were trying to wake me up, and out of annoyance, I did just that.

"You people just officially ruined my nap." I said.

"Yeah, sorry about that. My three friends here are idiots."

I looked at the people who are near me. There are five different girls, and only one of them is more serious than the others. I can tell that she feels apologetic for her friend's actions.

"*sigh* I guess I'll let it go for now." I said.

I got up and right when I was about to walk away, the serious girl stopped me and spoke up.

"Hey, wait. Is it okay if I ask you something?"

"Hm? What is it?"

"We're sorry for disturbing you, do you think we can make it up to you?"

I didn't answer her right away. After all, this is the first time anyone has ever spoken to me. To be honest, it feels... unusual, but pretty nice at the same time.

"How do you plan on making it up to me?" I asked.

"Well, we were going to go to the local restaurant for lunch later today. You're more than welcome to join us if you want." She said.

"You know what? I guess I can tag along."

"Thank you. Is it okay if we know your name?"

"Yeah, my name is (Y/N) (L/N)." I said.

"Nice to meet you, (Y/N)-san. My name is Okusawa Misaki." She said. "Over here are my friends."

"Hi there! My name is Tsurumaki Kokoro!"

"My name is Seta Kaoru."

"Hi hi! My name is Kitazawa Hagumi!"

"Fuee! Ummm... m-my name is Matsubara Kanon. N-Nice to meet you."

"Yeah, nice to meet you all."

Is what having friends feels like? It's amazing.

"Now then, shall we proceed with our Smile Patrol activities?" Kokoro asked.

"Yeah!" Kaoru and Hagumi said in unison.

"Y-Yeah." The shy Kanon chimes in.

"Hey, Misaki, are they always like this?" I whispered to her.

"Yeah, and believe it or not, Kanon-san and I are the normal ones around here." She replied with a sigh.

"Oh I see."

I don't think I can ever get used to people like Kokoro, Kaoru and Hagumi, and I don't know how to feel about Kanon at the moment, but with Misaki here, I have a feeling I'll get used to it in no time.
