Lucy walked the green area with Ably while he showed her around. So far she knew that no one remembers anything but their name, the only way out is through the walls, and that the longest someone's been here was three years.

"What through the walls?". They stopped and look through from a distance. "It's a maze. The runner ran it every day, mapping it and find a way out. 'They haven't found a way out?".

"Nope". He crossed his arms and continued to walk while Lucy followed him.

"Can I be a runner?".

"No". Newt said coming up to them making the two stop in their tracks. "And why the hell not". She snapped at the boy who was serious but all she wanted to do was help. "Because it's dangerous out there".

"I know about the grievers and you need all the help you can get and I can run. I don't care". He was upset about how little she cared like she didn't know her life mattered. "No, and that's final". Newt walked away from the two leaving Lucy with Alby.

"What the hell was let about". Alby asked her while they watched Newt walk off running a hand through his sandy hair. "Like I have a clue". She turned to look at him going back to her sassy ways but this time she was scared unable to remember her life before the Glades which made it worse.

"Whatever it is work it out because he's going to be your roommate until Gally makes a need homestead for when more girls come up". She rolled her eyes and walked over to the kind of lookout spots.

She climbed up the ladder and felt eyes on her the whole time. She knew that it was all the boys because she was the only girl but it was still uncomfortable for her to have all eyes on her.

The ladder was stable but she still had the feeling that at any time. She climbed to the top and was alone which made her happy. She felt like she was missing apart like she wasn't whole. She leaned up against the wooden pole closing her eye and trying to understand everything that was going on around her.

"Hey". A voice called to her making her open her eye to see the sandy boy sitting across from her. "Hi". She showed no emotion like it was sending nature for her to do that.

"I'm sorry". He apologised first making her tilt her head at him and wonder why he apologised. "I just want to help get out of this place".

"I know but it danger and I don't want you to go in there because..." He trailed off not wanting to finish what he was saying only for her to for him. "Because I'm a girl you don't think I can handle myself".

"No that's not it".

"Then what is it?". Newt took a deep breath looking into her eyes getting mesmerised by her beauty which made him feel warm inside. "No one wants to become a runner after the time you get picked after a vote". She was wondering how to get picked but realised that they would never let her.

"Fine".

"Tomorrow we will find you a job to do". He smiled at her making her blush and look away from him. "You have a box that was sent up with you. Probably girl stuff". She chuckled and roll her eyes at him before getting up to head down the ladder.

She walked over to where the box was and saw her name on one of them. She took the box and went over to Newt not knowing where to go. As she held her box she frowned while she saw everyone watching her as she walked past them. She saw Newt talking to some gardens so she walked over to him.

"Greenie". Newt greeted her while the other stared at her. "I don't know where to go". She shyly smiled at him while he turned to look at the other and then left taking the girl to his room where she will be saying. They got into the Homestead and Newt sat down on the hammock that was in there while she sat on the ground feeling the grass under her.

Newt watch her with a smile on his face knowing that he was slowly falling for the girl as she opened the box. It had clothes, towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, underwear, bras, a hairbrush, shoes, and pills that read 'take one a day'. Everything a teenage girl needs. She wondered why this had happened to everyone no one here deserves to be in this kind of situation.

She look up at Newt who was still staring at her so she smiled. "Like what you see". She saw Newt's face slowly heat up as she said the packing up of her box. "Yes... I mean no... Yes". Lucy laughed at him when she heard a noise from outside.

Her smile dropped into confusion as she dropped her bag and run outside. The blonde followed her as she watched the maze doors shut. "What the hell?". She was beyond confused Ably clearly forgot to explain what was going on. "It's just the doors they close and open when the sun rises and sunset". Newt cleared things up for her.

A young boy walked up to them making Lucy smile at him as he was cute in her eyes. "Hey, Chuck". Newt greeted the boy in a friendly manner. "Hey came to meet the new greenie before we sleep". The chubby boy spoke to him with his hand on his hips as he looked up at the redhead. "Hi, I'm Lucy". She put her hand out for him to shake it.

"Chuck". The curly-haired boy smiled at her before giving her a hug. It took her by surprise not knowing what to do as her face dropped when his arm wrapped around her waist. It took her a few seconds to understand what was happening but when she did she put her arm around him.

He pulled away from her and walked away not before turning around to look back at them. "Bye greenie, bye Newt".

"Bye Chuck". They both called out waving at Chuck while the two walked back inside the building where Newt's room was.

"Take the hammock". Newt told her taking out a sleeping bag for him to lay on. "Are you crazy? No this is your room I'll sleep on the ground".

"Sleep there, I don't want to hear it". He got into the sleeping bag while Lucy got laid down in the hammock looking up at the roof. Sleep eventually took over sending her into a deep sleep.
