An hour after two pairs had run into the maze Lucy had stood up and walked over to Chuck. She promised that she would teach him how to carve an object of wood. The two sat there on a log as Lucy watched over Chuck to make sure he was doing it right and not cutting his hand. The boy was very paranoid about cutting himself so he did it slow and steady so he wouldn't mess it up.
The two were in a conversation about what they thought life was like outside the maze with Newt when Thomas walked up to the two making them both stop and look at him. "Can I help you?" Lucy asked the boy and he took a seat on the log next to her.
"Can I ask you a question?" Thomas asked her which made him turn to Chuck and tell him to keep up the good work and not stop before turning her attention back to the older boy. "What is it?"
"Why would Alby go in the maze? I mean, he's not a- He's not a Runner." Thomas asked the girl but Newt answered instead of her "Things are different now. Alby went to retrace ben's footsteps before sundown. Look, are you gonna help?"
Thomas just ignored Newt asking if he was going to help out and asked another question. It was like this boy was only full of questions. "So he's gonna go back to where Ben was just stung?"
"Ably knows what he's doing. All right. He knows better than any of us" Lucy snapped at him getting somewhat annoyed with all his questions. She turned her attention to Chuck who looked to be struggling with carving. "Here."
She helped him readjust his angle so he could do it better and once he was on a roll again he gave Lucy a thankful smile to which she nodded back to him.
"What does that mean?" Thomas asked yet another question.
"All right, it's like you've heard, yeah?" Newt asked Thomas who waited for the rest of what the blonde boy was going to say. "Every month, the box sends up a new arrival. But someone had to be first, right? Someone had to have spent a whole month in the Glade alone. And the was Alby. I mean, it can't have been easy."
Newt continued to hack away at the stump of a tree but continued. "But when those other boys started coming up, one after the other, then we had our first girl, he saw the truth. And he learned that the most important thing is that we all have each other. Because we're all in this together."
Thomas then picked up and knife making Lucy turn and watch him. As he began to hack away at the stump Lucy couldn't help but watch and smile slightly as she thinks him doing that made him look hot.
"Yeah. there you go Greenie." Newt commented just before the sky started to rumble and the wind started to pick up and become heavy. The trees rustled as everyone want to go undercover to stop from getting wet.
While everyone went one away Lucy started to walk the other. "Where are you going?" Chuck called out to the redhead making Thomas and Newt look over as well. "It's just rain what's the harm?"
Chuck waved her off as turn back around and went in front of the maze doors like always and just laid there feeling the rain as it hit her skin. As the time passed the rain got heavier and Lucy sat up to look into the maze to wait for Alby and Minho.
What if they don't make it?
No. It's Minho and Alby they're gonna make it.

She just kept repeating the same words in her head over and over again trying to convince herself that they weren't going to be stuck in the maze like her. But things changed so she didn't know.
She was the first to get stuck in the maze and ben was the first to get stung during the day.
Two things in two weeks.
After the rain had passed everyone came and joined the girl who was now standing waiting for her best friend to come back. Gally comes up behind her and puts and hand on her should be making her turn and face him. He sent her a smile but she was too on edge to send one back.
Lucy ran her hand through her hair anxiously as she waited for the two boys. Thomas came up and stood beside her. Seeing how anxious she was Thomas reaction was slipping his hand into hers reassuring her that everything going to be okay which shocked her.
"Come on guys, can't we send someone after them?" Thomas pleaded squeezing Lucy's hand worried about Ably and Minho but it was clear that he wasn't the only one on edge. "I'll go," Lucy spoke making everyone look at her.
"What? I've been in there once and survived, maybe I can go-." Lucy was cut off by Gally whose hold on her shoulder tightened not wanting the redhead to do something so reckless. "That's against the rules."
"Either they make it back or they don't." Said another Glader.
"Can't risk losing anyone else." Newt turned to face the boy as he spoke to him in monotone. The wind started howling as a signal that the door was going to close but Ably and Minho wasn't back yet.
As the doors began to close and the boys were becoming restless. Every time Lucy jerked forward to grip Gally had on her shoulders was tightening. Lucy's breath became short and sharp as they all heard a grunt coming in inside the maze.
Everyone looked to see Monho struggling to carry Ably out to the entrance of the maze. "Wait, no, something's wrong," Newt stated the obvious but he was the only one that spoke up to say something.
"Come on, Minho, you can do it!" Chuck screamed making the rest of the Gladers join the boy's couraging words but to the girl, it was all muffled like she was watching everything in slow motion.
"They're not going to make it," Newt spoke his mind.
"Gally! Let me go!" Lucy finally spoke fighting Gally's grip letting go of Thomas' hand as Gally wrapped his arms around the girl as she fought him. "Please." She begged.
The moment Thomas heard the red head pleading he knew what he had to do. Hearing Lucy beg to go into the maze and save her best friend like he tried for her but failed. The brunette boy turned to face the only girl who continued to fight in Gally's grip. And in the next second to face Thomas.
That's when she knew what he was going to do, the look in the boys eyes said it all. "No." Her voice was inaudible and broken so she shook her head for him to see.
Without a second thought the either idiotic or brave boy had began to run passed the maze doors and into the maze. Newt and Lucy reached out to grab him but failed miserably. It was like everything was in slow motion as everyone watched Thomas get through the two stone doors.
