"So can my cousin be sweet?" Joanne asked like it was the most surprising and alien thing in the world.
"Yes," I laughed, "very."
"And did you two, you know..." she didn't finish her sentence but raised her eyebrows, "last night?"
"No." I shook my head, "that's what Ethan thought happened between us that started this whole mess in the first place. Anyway I wouldn't want my first time to be in the middle of the night with my whole family asleep in the next rooms over so I'm worried about being quiet the whole time."
"So you think you'd be loud?" Joanne laughed.
"Loud at what?" Joe asked, choosing that exact moment to walk in.
I groaned and covered my face.
"I didn't say that!" I defended quickly to Joanne.
"Nothing." I said to Joe, "nothing at all."
"Sex." Joanne told Joe.
Joe laughed.
I covered my face. "Thank you." I said insincerely to Joanne.
"You think you'd be loud?" Joe asked me smirking.
"Can we change the subject?" I asked, "and that's not what I said."
Joe and Joanne both laughed at me.
"Ok," Joanne took pity on me, "now you're here I need all my furniture moved." She said to Joe putting him to work.
I liked watching Joe work. He made it look easy to move around the large pieces of furniture that Joanne and I had not been able to move between the two of us.
"Stop staring at my cousin." Joanne whispered in a loud voice so that everyone would hear when Joe was moving the bed against a different wall.
"Sorry." I smirked, "can't help it." I said when Joe looked over at me.
Joe and I both stayed at Joanne's house for dinner. After dinner the three of us went back up to her room.
"This looks much better," I said, "much more like a room." I nodded in approval.
"Yeah," Joanne nodded too, "I like it."
"Oh wait!" She yelled out as we were sitting down, "I need to tell mum something before she goes to the shops." And she was out the door.
As soon as we were alone Joe leaned over to me and said, "what did you say?"
"What?" I asked him confused.
"When i came in, about sex and being loud?"
"Oh," I blushed, "Joanne asked if we.. y'know, when you stayed the night at mine but I said I wouldn't want my first time to be when I have to worry about my family waking up and hearing me. I didn't mean because I'd be super loud. I just wouldn't want to worry about that."
"I get you." He smiled, "and this first time, would you like it to be with me?"
I smiled at how awkward he sounded asking that, "yeah." I answered simply running a hand through his hair.
"Ok. Ok." He said, "and you're not one of those wait until marriage kinda girls are you?" He asked.
I laughed, how did he not know that about me, "no." I shook my head, "are you?"
"One of those wait until marriage kinda girls? No." He shook his head too.
"Good."
Joanne came back into the room, "sorry about that!" She flopped down on the bed, "what were you two talking about?"
Joe opened his mouth to answer and too worried he'd answer honestly, I cut him off with, "nothing!"
Joanne laughed, "ok then."
The next day I sat with mum and Ethan at breakfast.
"Are you ever going to speak to me again?" Ethan asked.
"Of course."
"I mean properly."
"What do you want from me? Can't I just be mad?"
"I said I was sorry!"
"I know."
"Will you come hang out at the youth centre today at least?" He asked, "people have been asking after you."
I had already decided I was going there today, "fine."
Ethan grinned at me.
As we left the house, "we need to call for Joanne first." I said. I'd told her last night I'd let her know when i was going.
We picked up Joanne and the three of us walked towards the youth centre.
"Is Joe coming?" Joanne asked me.
"So you've forgiven him but not me?" Ethan asked annoyed before I could answer.
"He didn't yell at me. Or punch anyone. Or start all this. Did he?"
"Look, Liv, I said I was sorry. I'll say sorry to Joe too when I see him. Can we please just let this go?" He used the name 'Liv' the name he used to call me when we were small. He knew it was more likely to make me forgive him.
It was working. "Fine." I sighed, "but you are still in my bad books."
"I'll take it." He grinned.
"Olivia!" Aaron gave me a hug when he saw me, "it's good to see you back."
"Thanks, Aaron!" I hugged him back, "I've missed you guys."
When Joe arrived and gave me a kiss sitting down next to me, the group were not so forgiving of his absence.
"Were you feeling sad without your girl?" Simon teased.
Joe sat back put his arm around me and let them tease him until they got bored.
"I've missed this." He said.
"What?" I asked leaning closer to him so we could have a conversation against the background noise.
"Hanging out here. With you. It's perfect."
"You're perfect." I said placing a light kiss on his neck, the place closest to me.
He pulled me closer to he could capture my lips.
"Not in here guys!" Aaron shouted at us, throwing a crumpled up chocolate bar wrapper so it hit our faces, "you'll get kicked out."
"He's right." Joe said pulling back, "want to get out of here?"
I nodded.
