The end of the school year was coming fast and with it came Joe's biggest rugby match of the year. And exams. Lots of exams.
I sat in Eimear's fish and chips shop for what felt like the one hundredth time this week and told her about Joe's match coming up and about how I was drowning in revision for my exams.
Her boss didn't mind me standing chatting to her as long as I bought something.
Eimear laughed at me, "you're so busy with exams you spend half your time in here chatting to me and the other half with your boy." She shook her head, "Alex says he's just the same. It'll be a miracle if the pair of you pass any of your exams."
"I'll have you know we study together." Joe's mum had even started letting me into the house to study there but I was so tense there I preferred studying in my house.
Eimear laughed, "you do, aye? A lot of biology is it?"
I blushed, "no."
"I'm only teasing." She laughed, "I'm sure you'll do grand in your exams. The pair of you. Smart as whippets."
Joe's game was to be the day of our last exam. We had the exam in the morning and the game in the afternoon. It was brilliant for everyone who wasn't on the team because there was guaranteed to be a big party after.
It did mean Joe's studying was constantly competing with his practice.
We had three weeks of exams starting in June. I barely slept. The only thing that kept me going was that Joe would bring me a cookie and a kiss at the start of every exam for good luck.
Our last exam was an English exam. My worst subject. I didn't care. I just wanted the exams to be over.
When we left the exam hall all I could see were smiles.
Joe swept me off my feet and twirled me around.
I laughed with him. "We're free!"
"I've still got my match." He reminded me.
"Go win!" I told him giving him a kiss as he placed me back on my feet.
"Thanks!" He laughed, "hadn't thought of that!"
Simon came over to us, "hate to break up the happy couple." He said, "but Joe, coach wants to see us all. Game prep."
Joe gave me a kiss and followed Simon away.
I went to find Joanne. She was standing with Aaron, Ethan, James, Tim and George.
"You're going to Simon's party later, aren't you?" Joanne asked me as soon as I walked over.
I nodded, thinking of the last one.
"I was just telling Joanne about the last party!" James said excitedly, "it was brilliant!"
"Yeah," I agreed, sharing a look with Aaron who had sat with me outside for most of the night, "brilliant."
We hung around outside for a while as the weather was nice before slowly making our way over to the pitch.
We weren't the first to arrive but we could still get a good position at the side of the pitch.
I thought it was a good position until I heard Michelle's voice next to me.
I turned away from her with a groan hoping she wouldn't notice us here.
"Greg is so going to win!" She announced loudly.
It took me a moment to realise that Greg was her boyfriend. I hadn't realised that he didn't go to our school.
"Our team is so embarrassing!" She continued on, "like who's even on it?"
