Joe's dad decided to walk home. Saying he needed to think about some things and to sober up still.
We decided it was too late to go into town and crossed the road to get a bus back home.
"So does your dad accept me now?" I asked as we waited for the bus to arrived.
"I'm not sure. I think so." Joe shrugged, "I guess we will see."
"I'm scared to go home." Joe admitted when we sat down on the bus.
"Why?" I asked taking his hand and squeezing it comfortingly, "you'll be ok."
"I'm just worried mum's going to freak out."
"Maybe she will. Maybe she won't. You'll still have me at the end." I told him, kissing his hand.
"I know." He smiled at me, pressing a kiss to the side of my head.
"I'm just glad that your dad seems calm now. I don't think he'll freak out about us anymore." Now that I was sitting down on the bus I realised how much of a weight off my shoulders this was. I realised I was constantly worried that Joe's dad would find out Joe still saw me and hurt him again.
"Thanks to you," Joe squeezed my hand now, "what were you going to do? Take him on yourself?"
"If I had to," I said protectively looking into his eyes that I loved so much, "I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."
He smiled, "you're cute when you're protective," he told me, "but I'm pretty sure I'm suppose to be the one who protects you."
"Not if you're the one in danger you're not." I shook my head.
"Well Thank you. For everything."
I moved closer in the seats so I was pushed right up against him, "I'd do anything for you."
"I'd do anything for you too. I love you so much." He kissed me.
After a few moments I pulled back, conscious that we were on the bus, "I love you too."
When we got off the bus Joe walked me home.
"I'm sorry this wasn't the day you had planned for your first pay check." I said as we approached my house.
He shook his head, "it's ok. I had a good time."
I gave him a look.
"Until we ran into my dad." He added.
We paused outside my house and I tugged lightly on our joined hand and stretched up for a kiss.
"I think I'm going to go to my aunts house for a bit before I go home." Joe said once we pulled away, his face was still close to mine, "Joanne's probably home by now if you want to come?"
I looked between my house and Joanne's, "I should probably go inside and tell my mum I'm back first. I might come round in a minute." I offered him.
"Ok." He gave me one last quick kiss and we parted ways.
I went inside and straight to the kitchen looking for my mum.
"Mum's not pleased that you missed dinner." Dad said to me sitting at the kitchen table alone with a cup of tea and the days newspaper.
"I was out with Joe." I explained, sitting down opposite him.
"So we heard."
"We got fish and chips."
"I do love a good chippie." Dad admitted.
"Yeah me too." I smiled, "where is mum, anyway?"
"She's gone to have a bath."
