Dawn pulled up outside Lily's house and leant over to her daughter in the passenger seat.
"Be good. Have a great time," she said as she hugged Danni goodbye.
"I will Mum, don't worry."
"It's my job to worry honey."
"I know. I'll text you when we get back to Lily's."
"Ok. Love you."
"Love you too."
Danni kissed her mother on the cheek and got out of the car. Walking up the steps to her best friend's house, Danni thought, as she had done for almost the entirety of the day, about Nicky. How was the situation going to resolve itself? They both had feelings for each other, but could they really be together? It was all just so complicated.
"Hey!" Called Lily as she opened the door.
"Hey."
"Come in, I think we need a massive chat!"
"Yeah, we definitely do!"
At least Danni knew that when she was with Lily her mind was taken off Nicky. She really needed to go out and get hammered, that usually took her mind off her problems too. They walked into Lily's house and Danni greeted Lily's mother with a hug and a peck on the cheek, she wasn't usually an affectionate person, but with Lily's family it was different: They were huggy people, so she conformed to that whenever she was around them. Besides, she was basically a member of Lily's family now.
She had known Lily only for a few years, but they had formed an unbreakable bond. There was nothing that Danni couldn't tell Lily and vice-versa. Danni could still remember when they first met: Lily had to sit next to her in a biology class according to the seating plan set out by the teacher, and Danni hated Lily. She was confident, loud and pretty, taking all of the focus away from Danni, and she didn't like that one bit. But over time, they grew to love each other, and Danni realised the main reason she hated Lily was because they were so similar, not so different.
Danni dumped her bag in Lily's room and found Lily sat on a barstool in the kitchen, pouring ciders into pint glasses.
"Pre drinks, me thinks!" Lily called to Danni.
Danni walked over to her best friend and picked up a glass. They knocked their glasses together and proceeded to chug their drinks. Both of them felt like they needed it.
"Who is this mysterious boy then?" Asked Danni.
"What boy?"
"The one boy who actually managed to get Lily 'I don't date' Harrop on a date."
"Oh. Him. Don't judge."
"Why would I judge? Have you seen the situation I'm in. There's definitely no judging going on."
"Ok. It's Toby."
"Toby? As in Toby Potts?" Toby Potts was the ignorant piece of shit in Danni's maths class, who made stupid jokes about Nicky. Danni wasn't judging, but wasn't exactly waving a flag of approval for her friend.
"Yeah. I said don't judge!"
"I'm not judging I'm just surprised you've gone for him that's all."
"Why?"
"He's in my maths class, and he's just, well, he's a dick to be brutally honest."
"How come?"
"He makes all these jokes about how he would totally shag Miss Jones, and completely objectifies her, and it's just-"
"Ok, I get that he's making all these jokes and shit, but all boys do! Maybe you're taking it a bit more personally because they're about Nicky?"
"Yes, possibly, but I really don't like him Lily."
"Well you're going to have to start liking him, because you're going to be seeing more of him."
"I'll try Lily, I will, but if he turns out to be a complete knob, I warned you."
"I'll bear that in mind, but there's something about him Danni."
"Like what?"
"Well, you said it yourself, I don't date! And we only talked for literally like five minutes, and he asked me out tomorrow and I said yeah. It's just weird. I don't fall for that bullshit usually!"
"Yeah. Maybe he will surprise me, maybe he is something special!"
"Yep. I hope so."
"Where are you going anyway?" asked Danni.
"I don't know, he's just said he's going to pick me up at six and he's going to take me out."
"That sounds cool. I'll admit, that really doesn't sound like the dick in my maths class, maybe it is just me. You excited?"
"Yeah, I am. It's weird, I've got butterflies!"
The girls gradually got ready for their evening out, gossiping about various people at school and scrutinising Lily's outfit options for her date. After a couple of hours, they were slightly giggly, feeling a bit fuzzy and ready to go out.
Danni had to admit, this was the best cure, she had hardly thought about Nicky since she had been with Lily. This was the most fun she had had since she had met Nicky and that was only because she was completely distracted and free from worry.
Pulling up in the car park, Lily paid the taxi driver and the girls got out of the car and wandered towards the bar. 'Haze' was the bar to be on a Saturday. Lily and Danni weren't technically old enough, but with their fake IDs, the girls had got into the bar everytime they had tried so far. They approached the bouncers on the door, who briefly glanced at their 'driving licenses' and let them through the door. The heat of the clump of gyrating, sweating bodies hit them as they walked in, along with the thud of the bass that vibrated their bodies as they tried to squeeze through the crowds.
Haze had a long bar area, which was often fairly vacant, but the large open areas were always filled with people getting up to all sorts together, hidden within the crowds. There was a unique feel to the place, and anyone and everyone came to Haze. Wait, was that? No. It couldn't have been. Danni shook her head and took the vodka shot from the bar and quickly downed it. It burned, but it was a good kind of burn. Soon enough, Lily and Danni were chinking shot glasses together again, and downing another lot of harsh liqueur. They were feeling pretty buzzed.
"I want to dance!" Called Lily over the noise.
"Come on then!" Danni led her best friend by the hand to the crowd, and they forced their way into the swarm of people.
They danced and swung their hips and were laughing all the time. It was so strenuous that a sheen of sweat soon covered both of their faces and arms, making the two young girls somehow seem even more attractive. They were in their prime, having the time of their lives and they knew it. Before long, they were both really sweating and red, with the only reason they weren't exhausted already being the alcohol that now flowed in their blood.
"I need a drink! I'll come back!" Danni shouted above the noise. She made her way out of the throng and to the bar. Summoning over the redhead bartender, she asked for a glass of water, and soon she was sipping on the ice cold water, feeling herself sober up slightly, but still fairly tipsy.
"I'm not even joking. Are you stalking me?"
Danni turned around. Nicky stood at the bar facing her. She had one hand on her hip, and was wearing a short, black bodycon dress. It showed just enough and yet, not enough for Danni. God, Nicky really was fit. Her body was literal perfection.
She had a slight tan, that made her seem exotic, and in this light, enticing. Her slightly curly brown hair hung loosely at her shoulders. Her make up was lightly but accented her already beautiful face. Danni really was affected by her. But still, she was her teacher. How was this going to work out?
