Nicky was in full on panic mode. How on earth was she going to explain the situation she was in without being frowned upon?

"Answer me, Nicky," Linda urged.

"What do you want to know?" Nicky asked, trying to buy herself some time.

She knew she couldn't lie to Linda, it must be a sisterly thing, but Linda could smell a lie from a mile off, so there was no chance of Nicky ever getting away with that. Realistically, Nicky knew that there was only one option remaining. She had to come clean about Danni to Linda. She had never before been this uncertain of how Linda would react. She didn't know what she thought of this sort of thing, after all, it was a bit of a taboo subject, so it wasn't something they ever really talked about before.

"Everything. But let's start simple. Danni is your student right? The one you said a while ago fancies you?"

"Yes," Nicky said, choosing to keep her answers short and sweet.

"Right. Ok. Sorry, this is just quite hard to understand. The bit I want to know is, how can she fall in love with you Nicky, if you haven't given her the opportunity to?"

"What?" Nicky was majorly confused.

"Well, I know you. You've got good morals, I know you wouldn't go anywhere near a student in that kind of way. So how come she feels comfortable enough with you to say all of this shit to you, she even calls you Nicky!"

Well that was going to be a bit awkward to explain. Nicky had a very brief re run of all the possible responses and reactions that she and Linda could have. There wasn't really a good option at all. She had to come clean to Linda. She knew she should have told her from the start, and then it wouldn't seem so bad. When they met, they weren't teacher and student, they were just two girls. Then, they had tried to steer clear of each other, it hadn't really worked, but at least they tried. Shit. Then Nicky remembered she had pointed Danni out in a bar to Linda not too long ago. She was screwed.

"Answer me Nicky!"

"Ok! I love her too, is that what you wanted?"

The words just seemed to pop out of Nicky's mouth uncontrollably. She couldn't believe she had just said that. Oh well. There was no turning back now. Nicky braced herself for Linda's reaction.

"You what? You're crazy! A student Nicky, a student! Do you realise how much trouble you could be in?"

"Yes of course I do! Don't you think I've  thought of that? Don't you think that that's the exact reason why she waited three months to tell me how she feels? I've tried to keep away Linda, but I can't."

"You should have tried harder. Now you're in a mess."

"I know."

"How far have you got with her?"

"What?"

"Come on. Tell me. I need to know whether my little sister's going to be in jail anytime soon."

"Nowhere. We've literally done nothing. She kissed me on my neck once, and we hold hands occasionally. That's it."

"Well that's good. Planning to have sex anytime soon?"

"You can't ask me that Linda!"

"I sure can! It's what the fucking police officers will ask so it's best to hear it from me first!"

"We both want to. But we're waiting."

"Well at least you have one brain cell between you. How do you get to have that conversation with a student? You haven't been seeing her outside of school?"

The look on Nicky's guilty face said it all.

"Shit Nicky. How messed up did Jenny leave you?"

"This is not about her! Danni is not just some rebound! I feel the same way about her as I did about Jenny, it's love, I promise you! And to answer your question, we just end up bumping into each other at places."

"What about that girl at the bar? I thought you were sort of seeing her? Does she know about this student? Are you cheating on her?"

Nicky tried not to give away the answer, but unfortunately her sheepish smile gave it away. She was doomed.

"Nicky! What the fuck? You pointed out a fucking student in the bar? You let me accompany you so you could have an illegal-"

"It's not illegal!"

"Well if she's not a minor - Jesus Christ, tell me he's not a minor."

"She's not. She's eighteen."

"Well that's something. You can still be down for abuse of power though Nicky! She wouldn't even have to press charges, the school would or the whistleblower."

"Please don't tell anyone. I'm begging you."

"As much as you disgust me right now, I won't tell anyone. You're my sister and I'll stick by you."

"Thanks Linda."

"Look, I need to understand why? My sane, rational sister has apparently all but disappeared, so please explain yourself."

"Ok. We weren't teacher and student when we met. I was walking down the street and spilt my coffee all over her by accident, but had to go to a blind date. I decided to ditch the date and get on the same bus as her. Even after that day, we didn't know that there was such an age gap. It was only the day after when we were back at school that we realised."

"I can understand you falling for her as a stranger Nicky, but you should have cut all ties as soon as you found out she was a student."

"I tried. Believe me I did. We agreed to wait it out, but then we went through some stuff and someone tried to rape her, it was a mess Linda. I couldn't just walk away when she needed me the most."

"Shit. That girl's been through hell. Is she ok now?"

"What do you think?" Nicky asked, motioning towards the letter.

"She does seem happy, I'll give you that."

"It's just bad luck Linda. This whole fucking situation is bad luck. I wish I had told you from the start so that you didn't judge me so instantly."

"I'm still not happy, Nicky."

"Oh. Well what can I do to convince you that we need each other and this isn't just some sick tryst?"

"Let me meet her."

"What?"

"You heard me. Let me meet her. If this thing is real between you too, I'll see it for myself, and if it isn't, well I'm going to be even more unhappy than I am now. Hold on," she raised her hand, seeing that Nicky was about to speak, "I'm not saying that if I can see you love each other, I approve. I'm just saying I want to know that you're risking everything for something that might actually be a decent relationship. Sometimes people get so blinded by their own feelings, they can't see what's real and what's not."

"Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!"

"So when are you going to introduce her?"

"I don't know. We haven't arranged to meet during this holiday."

"Well start working on it. I want to meet her. Soon."
