Nicky woke up as she heard a loud bang coming from the bathroom. Instantly pissed off from her rude awakening, she was only mildly pleased to hear Danni call that she was alright from the other room.
Nicky's mind replayed the events from the previous night as she felt herself get excited again. She couldn't believe that her and Danni had almost had sex! She just remembered how good Danni's body felt against hers and the way her lips felt against her own. She couldn't wait for the moment when they could actually have sex.
At the start of the year, Nicky never could have imagined herself in the situation that she was in the previous night. She had sworn to steer clear of Danni. Suddenly a wave of guilt washed over Nicky. Danni was still a student. She nearly slept with a student. Oh god. A sick feeling appeared in Nicky's stomach and as the memories replayed themselves in her mind, Nicky no longer felt contented - she felt guilty. What she had done was extremely close to breaking the law, and if Mala hadn't interrupted them, she would have broken the law. She couldn't control herself when she was around Danni, and that scared her. They still had six months to wait out before they could legally get together. What if they couldn't control themselves until then? What if someone found out about them? It was all too much for Nicky as she climbed out of the bed and ran into the bathroom, nearly wiping a towel-clad Danni out on her way. She slammed the door behind her and threw up yesterday's food.
Waves after waves of nausea hit her as the reality of what she had done sank in. After what Nicky guessed to be around twenty minutes, Danni walked into the bathroom and sat down beside her girlfriend. Nicky felt a hand on her back, stroking her, and shuddered. She didn't need this right now. She emptied more of her stomach contents into the toilet.
After about an hour or so, Nicky was extremely pale and started to get a bit hungry. Mala had confirmed she was virus and infection free as far as she could tell, and insisted it was probably just a seriously bad hangover. Nicky knew it wasn't though, it was post-hooking-up-with-Danni guilt.
The trio ate breakfast as Mala recounted what happened the previous night between her and her latest plaything. It didn't sound too dramatic, just an alcohol fuelled argument, but Mala was still quite upset by the whole situation. Danni seemed troubled throughout the whole meal, doing her best to add a voice of reason to Mala's concerns.
Soon, breakfast was over and Mala left to catch her train home. Danni and Nicky packed up in silence, checked out and got into Nicky's car.
"Nicky, what's wrong?" Danni asked after a while.
"Nothing," Nicky murmured in reply.
"Don't give me that shit Nicky, we nearly had sex last night and you've been constantly throwing up this morning. You haven't said a word to me unless you physically have to. Speak to me. Please."
Nicky turned around to look at Danni briefly and saw that tears were building in the younger girl's eyes. Nicky had never meant to hurt Danni. Another stab of guilt hit Nicky, but for a different reason this time. She couldn't bear to see Danni like this.
Focussing back on the road, Nicky cleared her throat then answered Danni.
"I feel so fucking guilty Danni. I wanted you so badly last night it was unreal, but I woke up, and all I could think about was that you're still a student and I'm still a teacher. We nearly broke the law last night! I could be fired, or worse, and I can't deal with that, and I don't want you to have to deal with the consequences either. I love you, and I don't want to lose you, but I can't keep my hands off you, and it's tearing me up. I'm just so confused."
Nicky felt a hand on her knee, and she was calmed down by the reassuring body contact.
"It's ok," Danni started, "I understand. You should have told me. It's a hard situation, an we are going to have to be better behaved than last night, but no-one is going to find out about last night, so you can stop worrying. We need to put a little bit of distance between us, but not for long. We've done around a third of the waiting, surely the wort part is over?"
"I guess you're right. Look, I'm sorry for not taking to you, I just didn't want to freak you out. It's tough on both of us and I didn't want to make it worse for you."
"You can talk to me any time, Nick."
"Nick?"
"Yeah. Or don't you like it? I can stop-"
"No. I like it. Nobody's ever called me that before."
"Good. I'm your first."
Nicky tried to ignore the possible double entendre behind Danni's words and focus on the road. However, she still felt heat on her knee and smiled. She really did love Danni, if only things were easier between them. If Danni just went to a different school or Nicky had a different job, life would be so uncomplicated for the pair. It frustrated Nicky so much.
After a few hours Nicky pulled into her drive alongside Danni's Ford. Both girls sighed as they realised it was time for them to part.
"I've loved this weekend," Danni said, not making eye contact with Nicky.
"Me too Danni."
"I wish things were different."
"So do I, so do I."
"Come round on Wednesday, yes?"
"Wednesday?"
"Yeah. It's the 23rd. Remember?"
Shit. Now Nicky did remember. They were going to tell Danni's parents. That was going to go down like a lead balloon. Nicky was already dreading it.
"I'll be there, don't worry," Nicky forced a smile.
"Good," Danni eyed Nicky's lips before pecking her on the cheek and climbing out of her car, "see you there."
