Sofía's POV
"Are you sure you want to do this?" asked Ada before I could sign the paper. We were already in the potion classroom, but I had stayed in the front with her and Hecate.
"Sure." I simply answered. She nodded and I took the chance to write my name on the document. "Thank you for letting me do this."
"It's fine I guess. It's still in the Witches Code."
"I know, but it's always a risk. I promise I can handle it." I said, before I got to my seat.
I had no idea how to handle it.
Well, technicaly, I knew the potion ingredients and development by heart, because it had been my favourite potion to learn. But still, I had never touched a cauldron in my life. How hard could it be?
"Begin." said Hecate with her scary voice. I actually found it interesting, that she would hide herself from the world using fear. I always liked challenges so I already liked her and intended to make it the other way arround too. That meant this potion had to be perfect.
I approached the desk filled with ingredients and grabbed all that I needed. My hands were absolutly full and I could barely see where I was going, but I wasn't planning on going back to the front of the classroom because that took time and I was planning to use as little as possible. When I got to my place and started brewing the potion I felt as if someone was watching me. As I looked up, a very ashamed Hecate Hardbroom looked away. I softly smiled when I saw her eyes checking if I saw her.
An hour went by and as I added the last ingredient I raised my hand and said I was done. All five teachers (because Gwendoline Bat had decided to join us to see if I could get the potion right) approached my desk. Ada put her hand on my shoulder.
"You don't have to drink it if you don't want to. There is still enough time to make a potion that will give you a passing mark."
"I don't want just a passing mark. I need to get a higher grade. Mostly in potions." I said. I needed Hecate to see I was a capable witch for her to teach me more complicated spells.
"Why is that?"
"You'll see..." I loved leaving people with suspense.
"Well, at least, Miss Hardbroom, could you tell us if it looks good enough? Just so there aren't really big consequences."
"I believe it is, Miss Cackle."
"Then go ahead, Sofía."
I took the spoon and drank the liquid in it. It tasted like something I had never tried before, almost like smoke but with some weird twist. Suddenly I started feeling a fire expanding through my body. I walked to the centre of the room to give me more space as I felt every cell of my body mutating into this wonderfull firebird creature. I agitated the wings, my wings, and I flew across the room trying not to hit anyone with my new body. The teachers looked astonished before Ada realised something.
"She does know the counter-spell, does she?" Nobody answered. "Does...she?"
In fact I did, but it was funny seeing them start panicking.
"It's going to be difficult to teach her in that state. We know phoenixes are smart creatures but we don't know if she managed to get the concience part of the spell right." Said Gwen.
"Maybe we can try to undo the spell ourselves." Miss Gullet suggested.
WHAT?! That could...
"That's out of the question, Miss Gullet." Hecate fiercly said. "That could hurt her physically and mentally if not done properly. We can not risk that."
I loved the way she defended me.
"I'm afraid I have to agree with Miss Hardbroom, Miss Gullet. I know it is going to be more difficult like this, but as she, I have to say unexpectedly, said, we can't risk to hurt her. Honestly Hecate, you seem to have a heart today."
I internaly laughed as I decided it was time to put them out of their missery. I recited the words of the spell, and my cells mutated back to my normal self.
"Hope you didn't freak out that much. Did you really think I would transform myself into a phoenix without knowing how to change myself back? That wouldn't prove myself to be that smart."
Mouths open, the five teachers almost seemed in shock. Suddenly, I heard some laughter coming from the back. Esme couldn't control herself any longer.
"I don't know how you managed not to laugh in the middle of that, Esme."
"Wait, she knew?!" Dimity exclamed.
"Not for sure, but she has learned every spell and counter-spell she could over the holidays. And that's her favourite one, so I couldn't imagine her not knowing." my friend responded.
Ada couldn't help but laugh too. "You gave us a huge scare, Sofía, but also a good laugh. And I think you performed the spell perfectly, am I wrong Miss Hardbroom?"
"Not at all. It seems you even managed the most complicated part of the spell: the mind."
"Then..." said Ada with a smile in her face. "... I have to say we got a new school record. A perfect hundred percent in both tests."
"Yes!" I said as I jumped happly and went to hug Esme. "I did it."
"Of course you did."
The teachers were all smiling, even Hecate for a second. Then, the test went on, and Esme obtained a 98% in potions and a 100% in the written exam. Then, it was time for lunch. But something felt odd. I felt as if I had cheated somehow, not saying who I truly was.
"I guess you are excited to have the best score." Said Hecate as she appeared by my side. "Oh." she exclaimed, when she saw I was kind of about to cry. "Are you alright?"
"Not really, I guess."
"What is going on?"
"I think I need to speak with you and Ada before the banquet."
A/N: Hi! Sorry it's been so long, I promise I don't intend to leave this story uncompleted. But we had lots to do at school, bc we made a school play and just a few days later we went to Germany for a study trip with the school. I'm still there tho, we are staying for a month and it's only been 2 weeks. I'll try to write when I have time here, but it helped me lots to have my inspiration back, the fact that we visited one of the castles that was shown in the worst witch. That helped me picture some of the scenes and so. I hope you like the chapter even if it is a bit short. Thank u all for the support💜
Here are 2 pics of the castle🥰
