The Games Begin

Looking up at the huge timer built into the enormous dome in front of her, the ‘soon’ disappeared and was replaced with ‘2:00’ while a dinging began to ring around the entire lobby. The ticking of the clock on her back was in sync with the ringing of the countdown timer that was quickly ticking down towards ‘0’ as all the people crowded around the end of a cut-off bridge, ready to run ahead when the rest of it lowered. The hype of the crowd emanated around the lobby, worming its way into Ivory's body, making her smile grow wider and a small chuckle escaped her mouth.

Scott looked over to her as he started running towards the bridge and ran up to her, running with her to it just as the clock hit ‘0’. The half of the bridge that was raised, lowered and people began flooding onto it and sprinting up to the dome and running around with each other just before they all got teleported into each team’s respective voting tubes.

“You ready, Ivory?” Scott asked over the noise of everyone’s shouts of joy.

“Ready as I think I’ll ever be!” Ivory replied, smiling and laughing cheerily.

“Cool! What do we want first?” Grian asked, staring at Scott since he had the most knowledge.

“I feel like a lot of people are gonna want Build Mart out first, which, obviously, is one of our strongest games. Maybe a pvp game like Sky Battle or Battle Box since we don’t really have the most experienced pvpers, excluding Dream. Probably not Ace Race since me and Dream can do pretty well in that so maybe that later on but still in the first half. I’d say vote Battle Box then since we can just wool rush the stronger teams.” Scott said in the space of about five seconds.

“Sure, ok.” Grian replied, happy that they were voting in his least favourite game first to get it out the way.

Ivory nodded and threw her egg into the place for Battle Box alongside her team. A lot of the chickens from other teams landed in there with some of them moving over to other games like Battle Box and Grid Runners. The votes looked extremely even, with no way to really tell what was going to win.

A strange feeling fell over Ivory, suddenly. She just kind of sensed that Grid Runners was going to be played first. She contemplated what this meant before she heard the clock on her back’s ticking echo around inside her head. Grian looked at her, sensing that something was up and saw that Ivory had a dim orange glow emanating from beneath her mask, presumably from her eyes, but as soon as he looked at it, it disappeared.

A loud ding reverberated around the dome, the ‘Decision Dome’, and Grian, along with everyone else looked up to see that Grid Runners had been chosen. Ivory looked up at the sign showing ‘Grid Runners’ on it in surprise and the ticking in her head stopped abruptly as the tube dropped all the participants down into another tube before teleporting them to the first game. Ivory questioned what had just happened for a moment then quickly turned her focus onto the large drop in front of her leading into a large ‘swimming pool’ of water and the instructions floating in the air just above it.

She did, however, take a mental note of what had just happened.

Looking behind her, a small pile of explosives in a canon-like ‘thing’ stood out against the grey and red concrete walls. A window was placed on the wall to her left and right and she could see the rest of his team through them. Scott to her right and Grian to her left with Dream on the platform right of Scott.

“The explosives behind you fling you forwards when the game starts, don’t worry!” Scott shouted through the glass.

They hadn’t really gotten to practice Grid Runners since it wasn’t on the practice server, however they had heavily practised their communication skills so the whole team was fairly confident going into the game. Ivory took one last look up at the instructions just before a fog horn blew signalling the beginning of the game. She felt his feet leave the ground as the TNT behind her exploded and she saw everyone fly through the air with her.
