On a day that everybody thought would be the same as usual at Nijigasaki high school, the school's drama club gathered for the day out front of the stage. After their last play ended up a success, they were to run through how things went today, but while the club took a moment before club activities were to begin for the day, the club's president stood in front of everyone and said "Today we're getting a new member, in fact the person who decided to join us only transferred to the school a couple days ago."

After the club president finished saying that they had a new member, out from behind the stage curtains and with a smile on his face said "Hey, I'm Y/n L/n, Class 2-C. It's good to meet you."

Y/n's Perspective

As I walked out from behind the curtains, I looked out and ran my eyes over the others here. There aren't as many people in the club compared to my previous school, but at least I chose to go here unlike before.

"Wait, L/n? Like Amaru L/n?" I heard one of the other students in the club say

"Nah, there's no way, right?" Their friend responded

As I heard people bringing up my mom, I winced slightly. I get that my mom being a big actress means that a lot of people interested in theater know her, and our last name isn't the most common, but I still wish that it wasn't brought up so often

Noticing my discomfort with the way the conversation was going, the club president said "Now before we start going over how things went with the last play, how about we give L/n a chance to show his stuff. Y/n, do you have any lines you're particularly familiar with performing that you'd like to do?"

"Uh yeah, sure." I said, trying to pull one of the monologues I had for my role in the last play I was a part of at my previous school out of my memory. The line itself ends up talking about the nature of happiness and choice, as well as humanity's inability to know the future. Luckily I hadn't forgotten that line at the very least, and so without difficulty I managed to play the part of a Count who after struggling for so long, has finally found a truth about the world that saved his soul.

After I finished my monologue, I nodded, and after I was given some polite applause, I headed to find a place to sit, ending up sitting beside a girl with brown hair and light blue eyes.

"You were really amazing. It felt like you really were expressing a realization with so much joy, like you had needed those answers." she said, smiling at me

"I'm glad to hear that." I said, smiling at her.

"I'm Shizuku Osaka, I'd love to hear about how you base your performances later." she said "Maybe the two of us can learn something from each other."

"Alright, sounds good, Osaka" I said

The two of us then turned our attention back to the president, who was going over how things ended up when it came to the last play, which I actually went to see since I wanted to get a look around the school before my first day. The main character was played by the girl beside me, Osaka, but with how different her vibe is compared to what I saw on stage up then, it makes me blown away by just how well she can change into the character she plays.

After club practice ended for the day, rather than leaving like most other people, I hung back, stretching out and yawning until Osaka came up to me. "So you want to have out talk today?"

"If you wouldn't mind of course." Osaka said

"Nah, of course I don't. I mean I have some time to burn before heading home." I said "But I'm still not particularly knowledgeable about the school, so if you don't mind, I'd prefer if we do it while I check the place out."

"If you want, I can show you around while we talk." Osaka said

"That's actually perfect, thanks." I said

As the two of us left the auditorium, I kinda followed Osaka's lead as we went. "So Y/n, you were really amazing when you performed, can I ask what exactly you base your performance on?"

"That? For me, I read over the play before I do any of that and base my movement and that stuff off my interpretation of what the character would do." I said "It limits me to my imagination and how much I can get into their head, but it works."

"I see, I typically base my movements off of what I see other's do. If I'm playing the part of an athlete, I watch actual footage of one and base my movements off theirs." Osaka said

"Oh really?" I said, I can definitely see how it'd add to the immersion of her performance, and while I wish I could do the same, I feel like it would take an eye for detail I don't really have nor want to spend the time to develop.

"Also Y/n, I'm sorry if this is rude, but I'm curious about something. Are you maybe related to Amaru L/n?" Osaka asked

"Yeah, she's actually my mother." I said

"I see, then I guess like you're mother in your talent for acting." Osaka said, smiling

"Yeah, my mom even says that if it keeps up I'll be creating a legacy." I said, giving her a smile. I mean sure, I like acting, but it's not like I was given any other choice. Mom wants a legacy for herself, and so I was thrust into acting classes early to become somebody up to her standards. But still, I do like acting, so I'm just gonna relish the choices I get to make myself, and deal with her overbearing attitude.

"But in any case, I'm kinda curious what kinds of stories you like. For acting or whatever else." I said, trying to bring the conversation away from my mom.

"Well, I read lots of Shakespeare, like the four tragedies. As well as Chekhov and Racine, and Greek plays too. Whether they're tragedies or comedies, they've stood the test of time for a reason, since I can read them over and over, and as soon as I start I can't stop." Osaka said, getting excited "When I read them, I feel myself becoming the character in the play, classic plays drag readers and actors into them from the get go."

"You sure are passionate. It almost makes me feel like I need more of a reason for what I love as much as I do." I said jokingly

"Ah, I'm sorry if I talked your ear off, I guess I should be more self-aware." Osaka said

"Nah, it's fine Shizuku. Personally, my favorite stories are ones like The Count of Monte Cristo, where despite having suffered so much, they keep moving forward until they finally find their peace. And because of that, tragic endings always end up kinda poisoning my view on the rest of the story." I said

"I see, I can understand what you mean. It hurts to see the character's you started to grow close to find nothing but tragedy, but I feel like that ability to affect the people experiencing the people is part of what makes them so great." Shizuku said

The two of us talked for a while longer as she showed me around the school, and I couldn't help but find the way she gets so passionate about acting and plays so incredibly charming. While I don't know if my mom is going to drag me out of this school because she doesn't feel like I've been improving here, for the time being I just want to make some friends, Shizuku being one person in particular I want to get along with, and find happiness in my life and where it'll go from here.

A/n: Welp, my new fic has begun. I have some ideas about this fic I'm really looking forward to trying, and I hope you'll stick around. Also because it's so damn hard for me to have an original thought when it comes to titles, I'm gonna try and do theater themed here, well if I can find any that are actually okay
