When people grow, they leave a trace of history...
And mostly, some elements of their childhoodThen Calvin Steele was not like most people.
" You don't have to do this... I can make it on my own. I am twenty two years old for heaven's sake"
Calvin started the car. " I know, you have been shouting your age since you aged up''
Rosie sulked by the front seat
" Belts on" he said
She put her seat belt then again continued sulking.
He smiled... " You will never grow up"Looking at the man beside her she couldn't almost recognise him. Her childhood bestfriend was not this handsome man in a neat business suit.
She spent years now to adjust to the new Calvin but in vain. When they had started skipping school together it was almost impossible to stop.
That particular day Cay had surprised her by taking her to a basketball court" You made me skip school for this"
" It's the only sport I love...cheer me today"
After that day they had almost become inseparable. Petra was happy that Calvin had reduced his wild life. They would either be photographing or basketballing.
Ofcourse it had taken alot of strength to quit all the stuff he was doing.
Maybe it had something to do with his sister's disappointed face.Just graduating highschool was a miracle to Petra... For the very first time she broke in tears crying in front of him.
That day something in him twisted... So his mother had always been proud of him. What did he do to deserve all those years ? He didn't even qualify for an Ivy League university...But the happiness did not last long ... When he announced he wanted to study seven states away from home.
Petra wept." Mom... I'm not dying, it's just ---
" No cay... No "
He sighed..." I'll come back with my degree... I want to make you proud"
" I am proud"
" I'm not... Please mom"
And she did.
His goodbyes to Rosie was" Don't skip school... I want you in NY university... I'll be waiting"
She never really thought she'd cry. Maybe because the thought of new year in school without her brother... Or his friends ...
It was just sad. When she was working so hard to get in NY university, she kept thinking of how he was...
Did he go back to his outgoing life...? Did he settle?
But then a year later he came back...
Different. They had learnt later that he only spent half a semister in university. Then he contacted Raphe asking for some cash... Raphe did not think much, he was the only father figure after all so he did
They came to know he opened up a sports company..." Steele sports"
And eight years now he was among the richest men in US. Opening up branches everyday...Some called it pure luck...
But he knew, his family knew... The amount of hard work, his strive...
How he didn't even eat a bit, sometimes he was scammed, the amount of disrespect at first.. how people shut their doors at his face because he didn't have a college degree...
Those were the tough days especially for Petra..
To act like everything was okay .. to act strong in front of her son.
It was hard okay... So hard. But so goes the saying. Hard work pays... It did to him.
Rose still couldn't grasp it or the concept of him in magazines.. both fashion and sports...
She would blink rapidly and stare for long.
