My clock slowly ticks through each number, like it's purposefully trying to agitate me. 1:03. I blink, raising my eyelids sluggishly each time I open them. I've spent hours worrying about how I'm going to bring up me being colorblind.

1:04. Sixty seconds already? Time sure flies when you're worrying, I guess. I flip onto my side and stare at the gray wall. I wonder what color it really is. It kinda reminds me of buried treasure; dull and ordinary on the top, but once you reveal it, it's beautiful. I turn back to face my clock again.

1:05. Right as the numbers switch around, my doorknob starts to turn cautiously. I sigh softly and sit up. When Blue steps into my room and hurries to my bedside, I'm already turning on the lamp and picking his book up off the floor. Blue scrambles to climb up next to me, eagerly burrowing under the blankets. My scowl morphs into a tired but motherly look when I see him out of the corner of my eye. The bright white stars in his eyes almost give off their own light.

"This is probably gonna be the last time I read to you after your bedtime," I shake my head. "Or mine. You can't keep doing this, Blue." His stars dim, so I hurry to cheer him up. "But I'll still read to you right now! But you gotta promise me you'll go to sleep after."

"Okay," he says quietly, and closes his eyesockets because science. The corners of my mouth turn up in a smile, and I begin to read in a soft tone, halfway between a whisper and a normal voice.

It doesn't take long for Blue to drift off, in fact, he was basically asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. I don't have the heart to wake him up, so I let him sleep with me, swearing it'll only be for one night. I, too, close my eyes and clear my mind of all anxiety. Sleep engulfs me immediately.

-----------------------------

My eyes flutter open. Beautiful, pure white sunlight is pouring in through my window, a few birds sing to one another, and there's gloves clamped around my waist. I suck in a sharp gasp. I'm not uncomfortable, but this sudden gesture really took me by surprise.

"Too cliché," I mutter as I try to remove Blue's hands, but without waking him up. "Way too cliché."

Eventually, I'm convinced he bathed himself in Superglue last night, so I have to prod him awake. It takes a few minutes, but he does spring back when he realizes what he was doing. He looks me in the eyes, but mine are quickly drawn to a light gray tint on his face. Him too?

"I guess I should start breakfast, huh?" I suggest, trying to steer this situation away from turning into an awkward silence. "What do you want?"

Blue's stars return, bigger and brighter than ever. "HASHBROWNS!" he yells. "AND SAUSAGE AND EGGS."

I've been told that skeletons don't particularly need food, but they enjoy eating anyways, so I resort to human health rules as well. "And some fruit," I insist as we trot downstairs, Blue in front and me following. "Gotta stay healthy and fit. But your wish is my command. Hashbrowns, sausage, and scrambled eggs. Correct?" Blue slides onto a stool and nods so hard I'm afraid his head might fall off.

I'm about to speak again when Classic roams into the kitchen. It's not long before every else flocks into the kitchen, either protesting about Blue's yelling (Red and Hip-Hop) or chatting with their friends (Ink, Blue and Dream). Classic just sits at the table in silence the whole time, taking everything in. It's all perfect.

I think I'll spoil the mood over scrambled eggs.
