"OH MY GOD!"
I scream and drop the grocery bags I'm carrying when I see a different skeleton sprawled in front of the door. This one is slightly shorter than Ink and Fell; he's got a long scarf tangled around his neck. His boots looks two sizes too big for him, and they almost reach up to his knees. He has these...shoulderpads, and a big pair of gloves tie the comical look together.
I peer curiously down at him, but before I can prod him with a finger, he jumps up swiftly and lands in a not-so-graceful jumble of bones.
"Oh my god!" I repeat, and reach out a hand to help him. "Are you okay?" He looks up at me in awe, stars shimmering in his...eyesockets.
"I AM MORE THAN OKAY!" he yells triumphantly. "FOR I AM NONE OTHER THAN THE MAGNIFICENT BLUEBERRY, AND I HAVE CAPTURED YOU!"
"Uh..." I pull him up and look at him quizzically. "But you arrived in my house, so doesn't that mean I captured you?"
I apparently said something wrong, because he looks scared and unsure whether or not I'm trustworthy. With a slight tear in his eye, he hiccups and hastily scrubs his face.
"I DON'T WANT TO BE TRAPPED," he sniffs, and I instinctively wrap my arms around him, even though I know that's the awkward path to go down. So when the door squeaks open, Ink and Fell stand in the doorway stiffly, looking surprised and quite grateful.
"Blue!" Ink cries, and scoops him into a hug. Bone-crushing, if I do say so myself. "I'm so glad you're okay..."
Fell doesn't seem to be sharing the same gratitude that Ink is crying over but he looks over at me and nods rigidly. I smile at him, but he glares and turns back to the smaller skeleton.
"Blue," Ink motions his hand towards me. "This is Y/N. She lives here. Y/N, Blue."
We look at each other, both in awe. He's so small! I mean, like, he looks four feet high, and he has energy beyond imagination. It's pretty incredible.
"Hey," I nod abruptly. "I guess I'll make lunch, if you're hungry." Before I can take two steps to the kitchen, though, Blue jumps in front of me, somehow even more excited, if that's possible.
"I WILL MAKE LUNCH!" he assures me confidently. I shrug and let him gallop into the kitchen. I'm about to flip the TV on when Ink appears at the armrest, looking worried.
"You shouldn't've done that!" he whispers urgently. "I'm not trying to make him feel bad, but he's a horrible cook."
I wave my hand impatiently. "I prepared for that. You expect me to think everyone is a five-star restaurant owner? I have pizzas in the freezer." Ink smiles.
"Smart thinking."
"Thank you." I grin and turn back to my black and white show. I seize a blanket from the floor and throw it over me, huddled on the couch.
"Mind if I sit down?" Ink points to the other side of the couch.
"Knock yourself out." I don't stir when he crawls onto the mountain of pillows on my left. I sit in silence, watching each gray character do their thing onscreen. It's probably been twenty minutes before I sit up straight, startling Ink.
"I forgot to put away the groceries!" Ink looks confused.
"Why is that such a big deal? Here, I'll help." He gets up and walks into the entryway, then reemerges with two stuffed bags in his arms. I follow suit, and we transport all the items into the kitchen, where Blue appears to be cooking up a storm. Literally. There's a gray cloud hovering over the stove, but I don't take a second glance. I'm trying to train myself to get used to weird things happening.
As I go to put away the olive oil, I accidentally run into Ink.
"God, I'm so sorry!" I say hurriedly, helping him regain his balance. But when I glance back at him, there's a gray dusting lightly covering his face. I ignore it, instead meandering back to the living room. Ink trails after me moments later, and I notice the gray has faded away.
Shrugging, I pass it off, telling myself he was just embarrassed. Although I'm not sure I trust that theory.
