Jae's POV

I sat at the custody hearing anxious and worried at the same time. I wasn't worried a bit about the outcome of Hannah's custody hearing. I was worried about not being at the hospital with McKenna if something went wrong and missing out on the birth of our child. Every five to ten minutes, I would look down at my watch, then check my phone to make sure that it was working properly.

“Mr. Santos, is there somewhere else your client would rather be than here tending to his daughter's custody hearing?” Judge Sheena Radcliff asked in an annoyed voice.

“Actually, your honor, there is somewhere he needs to be today.” My lawyer replied.

“What's more important than him being here to make sure that his daughter doesn't
end up in the wrong hand?”

“Your Honor, I reported to you a few days ago that Mrs. Yung, his wife, won't be able to attend today's hearing because of a medical problem?”

“Mr. Santos, I know that, but what does that have to do with Mr. Yung not wanting to be here today for his daughter's custody hearing?”

“Mrs. Yung is at the hospital about to give birth to their child. She and the baby's life could be in danger if the doctor doesn't put her into induced labor pretty soon.”

“Why didn't you tell me about your client's situation when you first walked into the courtroom, Mr. Santos?”

“I was about to ask you if he could be excused so that he can be at the hospital with his wife, your honor.”

“Mr. Yung, I'm so sorry for my rude and insensitive question a few minutes ago. Go on and be with your wife. I'm sure that Mr. Santos can answer any other questions that I may have concerning the custody of your daughter. I'm pretty sure that I have all the evidence I need, and I have Ms. Brook's Living Will showing who she wants to raise her daughters.

“I'll call you as soon as everything is settled here.” My lawyer says as I stand to my feet.

“Mr. Yung, good luck to you and your wife.” Judge Radcliffe blurted out before I walked out of the courtroom.

Stepping into the elevator, I press the first floor with my cell phone to my ear. “How is McKenna doing?” I asked my mother-in-law as soon as the line connected.

“She's doing fine. She wants to talk to you, Jae.”

“Hey, babe.” I greet in a cheerful tone, then say, “I'm on my way to you.”

“How did everything go in Hannah's custody hearing?” she nervously asked.

“I'll tell you all about it when I get there, sweetheart.”

She began to cry, while at the same time uttering, “I thought I'd have to go through this without honey. I thought that you would miss out on seeing our baby being born.”

“I'm sorry I made you worry, sweetheart. I'll be there soon.” I respond before ending the call and stepping off the elevator into the lobby of the courthouse.

Time Skip…

I made it to the hospital just in time to see McKenna before the doctor put her to sleep. I got outside in the labor and delivery waiting room in between Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, scare out of my wits.

“She's going to be fine, son. She knows that you and the girls need her.” Mr. Thomas says, patting me on my back.

“Where's McKenna?” Ronan yelled as he approached me.

“What are you doing here?” I asked in a low, angry voice.

“Is McKenna alright, Jae?”

“Again, I ask you, what are you doing here, and why are you so concerned about my wife, Ronan?”
