Jae's POV...At Tompkins Infirmary...

The long wait in the waiting room was tearing me up on the inside. My nerves were being scattered all over the place from watching dozens of nurses running all over the place. They were racing back and forth between the ER and whatever room they were coming from like a chicken with its head cut off.

My heart began to pound erratically in my chest when I heard a "code blue" blast through the waiting room speakers. I don't know what in the hell that means but I knew instinctively that it wasn't something good. especially when I began to see doctors and nurses rushing into the ER followed by a burly man pushing a piece of massive hospital equipment.

I sat there forcing myself to take a deep, slow breath trying to get my erratic heart under control. No matter how slow or deep a breath that I took it still wasn't working. My fear of losing my wife and child was mounting with every second that passed. It was like I was stuck in a never-ending nightmare. Jumping up from my seat I began to prance back and forth from the emergency room door and the waiting room in panic mode.

"What is going on back there? Mr. Thomas asked a young, black female with short, curly hair and big, brown doe eyes.

"Sir, Dr. Luker will be out to see you as soon as he can." She responds with a grim, nervous smile on her face.

The nurse's facial expression told me everything that I needed to know. Tears welled up in my eyes because I knew without a shadow of a doubt that something terrible was happening behind those closed doors. I immediately fell to my knees in front of the emergency room door and began to pray for the safety of my wife and child. I prayed harder than I've ever done in my life.

"How could a day that started so perfectly take such a drastic change for the worst? One minute I'm baring my soul to the woman that held the key to my heart and in the very next I'm on the brink of losing my wife, my child, and my very own sanity. Is this world trying to tell me that McKenna and I aren't meant to be together? I asked my father-in-law when he began to help me to stand to my feet.

"Jae there's nothing in this world that is strong enough to keep you and my daughter apart. I already knew that you were the right man for my baby girl when I decided to go along with your first marriage." Mr. Thomas asserted while he smiled bleakly at me.

"Son, have you heard any news yet about McKenna and Amy? Dad asked me as soon as he walked through the hospital sliding doors carrying Raleigh in his left arm.

"No, we haven't heard anything yet." Mr. Thomas answered for me.

"Dad, what am I going to do if I lose McKenna?" I asked slumping into a hard, blue chair with my head held low and my eyes closed

"Son, you're not going to lose her," Dad stated before wrapping his arm around my shoulder.

I felt two sets of tiny arms being wrapped around my neck. "Daddy don't cry! Hannah says wiping my tears with her small hand while Raleigh smothers my right cheek with kisses. Raleigh and Hannah's show of affection made it that much harder for me to control my emotions.

"Hi, my name is Officer Charles Dean." I hear a familiar voice speak from behind me. Wiping my face with the palm of my hand I stood slowly.

"Alright, little ladies, let's go get something to snack on," Caleb says, taking the girls by the hands and leading them over to a vending machine close by.
