"I realize that whatever happened back there-" I begin.

"I'm not telling you what happened. Even if you did save my life," Pierce interrupts.

"Ok. Sorry," I say.

Silence follows.

"I never got your name," Pierce says ending the silence.

"Oh. I'm Avice," I say.

"That pretty," he responds.

"Thanks," I say. "So why are you are this island?"

"My family owns it," he says quickly.

"Wow. For how long?"

"Since 1912. Says it on the knocker."

"So, why the neckless?" I ask.

"It's important to me," he responds.

"I figured that much, but why?"

"You ask a lot of questions don't you?" Pierce complained.

"Sorry. Trying to keep the conversation going," I retort. "So, here's the deal. I'm not technically supposed to be wandering around."

"You need a cover up, don't you?" he asks curiously.

"Clever, but not quite," I say.

"What's the plan then?" he asks.

"I'm going to sneak back into my tent. If I get caught I'll say I was going to go for a walk or to go do my business.

"Then, later today, I'll go for a walk or something and find you unconscious or some shit like that. No one will ever know!" I say waving my hands around.

"Genius. Except, you don't know the exact details," he argues.

"Each scenario is based off of what the others say."

"Where will you find me?"

"We'll pick a spot," I say. "You'll need a story to how you were knocked out..."

There's another silence.

"Hey, are there any monkeys on this island?" I pipe up.

"Have you seen any monkeys?"

"Mmm... Yes."

"No you haven't. I've lived on this island my whole life and not seen a single monkey."

"Gees. I was joking, Mr. Jokekiller."

He rolls his eyes.

"Are there any people who live here besides you?" I question.

"There were. They're all dead now."

"Great. How long ago did they die?"

"About 1914. Why?" Pierce asks.

"Would there still be some hunting traps laid out?" I say forgetting about his question.

"I stumbled on one when I was younger. Why?"

"I'll take that as a no," I say ignoring the question. "Ok I have an idea."

"Well, what is it then?"

"Wouldn't you like to know?"

"I would, because- what the hell are you doing?" Pierce is so confused.

"Looking for a-aha! Found one." I practically shout.

He stares at be with concerned, bewildered eyes.

I walk towards him. I gently place my hands on his face. "I'm sorry."

"For wha-" my once gentle hands hit the side of his face with a rock.

"I'm really sorry," I say bending down to check and see if he still has a pulse. "Oh good," I sigh.

I take off running back towards camp, only stoping at the tree line.

I am able to run back to my little makeshift shelter without being spotted.
