Tomorrow—Harry and I are getting married tomorrow, yet he has disappeared into thin air as though we haven't spent our entire day together. I call him as I work out the place cards with Lottie and Gemma, wondering why Niall has been placed between Zayn and Liam—he'd presumably be thrilled, but I'm not completely sure Zayn and Liam would.
"Hi, baby."
"Harry, where are you?"
"I'm at Zayn and Liam's. Nancy had her puppies."
I sigh in response—he's playing with puppies when we have no less than a million things to work out. "Harry, are you serious right now? I'm working my panties into a twist, but—"
"You're wearing panties?"
"No, I'm not wearing panties, Harry. I'm trying to tell you that I'm wearing myself out while you're playing with puppies."
"I'm sorry," he chuckles. "Do you want me to come back?"
"No, I want you to tell me the next time you decide to disappear on me."
"I'm sorry. I have every intention of marrying you, you know that."
"Yeah, I'm sure that's what you told Levi."
"Really, Louis?"
I close my eyes in response. "I'm sorry."
"I know you are."
"Forgive me?"
"Always," he says. "But maybe you should come play with the puppies? I'm sure our sisters have everything under control. And they might even get more done once you're not directing their every move."
"Are you gonna talk about the bathroom again?"
"Probably."
I'm not in the mood to have another conversation about bathroom colours. Harry and I only just moved into our new house—right next to Liam and Zayn—but we've been too busy with the wedding to unpack, so there are boxes everywhere. And our new bed hasn't arrived yet, so we're sleeping on an air mattress in the living room because we haven't painted our bedroom yet. And yet the only thing Harry can think about is whether or not I'm going to allow him to paint our attached bathroom dusty rose.
I am going to let him because I'm whipped, but we have a month to get settled in when we've postponed our honeymoon so we're not coming home to a house that isn't ready. It's especially important when Harry is undoubtedly going to talk me into getting a puppy, but also because our honeymoon is extra long because we couldn't agree on a destination. Harry wants culture and museums and old cities, which I can't wait to experience with him, but I also want what comes next when we can spend three weeks at the beach.
"Paint it whatever colour you want, baby."
"I want you to approve," he says. "I can't have you resent it so much that I can't turn you on in the bathroom anymore."
"Love, I know you already bought the paint."
He's quite a moment too long. "Fine. I bought it because I knew I was gonna get my way."
I smile as I switch out Zayn's place card with Niall's. "Let's paint it tonight, yeah?"
"Are we supposed to see each other? I mean, aren't we supposed to sleep apart?"
"I haven't slept without you in a year. And you better not make me, because I'm gonna be proper snappy in case I haven't slept well enough."
"You're sweet."
