Buffy's POV:

"This is madness. What can you have been thinking? You are the slayer. Lives depend upon you. I make allowances for your youth, but I expect a certain amount of responsibility. Instead of which you enslave yourself to this-this....cult?" Giles rants on pacing the floor heatedly.

I stare at him and raise my hands showing my pom poms , "you don't like the color?" It might've been the wrong thing to say since he starts to stammer.

I bite my lip to contain my smile as I hide my hands behind my back. "Do you, um...do you ignore everything I say, as-as a rule?" Giles questions setting a book in a cart.

"No. I believe that's your trick," I bound over to him and do a pose with my pompoms in the air, "I told you. I'm trying out for the cheerleading squad."

He sighs heavily and stares at me in disbelief. "You have a sacred birthright, Buffy. You were chosen to destroy vampires, not to....wave pompoms at people. And as the Watcher, I forbid it," he firmly tells me before heading over to the table.

I watch after him with my eyebrow raised, "and you'll be stopping me how?" I rock back and forth on my heels waiting for him to answer.

"Well, I.... By appealing to your common sense, if such a creature exists," he tells me leaning back on the table and crossed his arms.

I roll my eyes and walk forward a little. "I will still have time to fight the forces of evil, okay? I just.... want to have a life. I want to do something normal. Something safe," I softly inform Giles who sighs heavily, taking his glasses off to wipe them quickly then put them back on.

"Nothing I say will stop you, will it?" He asks and I shake my head with a smirk. I glance to the clock and my eyes widen.

"The tryouts are gonna start soon! See ya, Giles," i exclaim accidentally cutting off what he was gonna say and I run out meeting up with my friends.

"Giles didn't approve, huh?" Willow states glancing at me as we walk into the gym where a bunch of girls are stretching.

"He totally lost his water. We haven't seen a vampire in over a week. I'd say he should get a girlfriend if he wasn't so old," I respond with a weird expression. Willow gives me a sympathetic smile and pats my back gently.

"Well, we're behind you. Hey look who's here," she says gesturing with her head to the stands. I turn and smile when I see Kai, her brother, and her sister sitting down.

"People scoff at things like school spirit but look at these girls giving their all like this. Ooh, stretchy," Xander says in a daze but I ignore him and head over to our other friends who turn to us. Well I hope they're our friends. I like them.

"Hey guys. What are you doing here?" I politely ask with a friendly smile. They stand up and smile gently at me.

"Well, I remember you talking about wanting to join the cheerleading team and wanted to be here for you to show our support," Kai says in her cute English accent with a smile making my expression soften.

What's going on with me? Everything she does I think is cute and I don't know why. It also doesn't help when she says sweet things to me.

"Aw thanks you guys. That's very sweet of you. What about you, Katherine? Are you gonna try out?," I happily reply then asks making Katherine grimace.

"Be in short skirts and wave pompous at people who are staring at you? No thank you. That's not my style. I rather sit on the stands where no one can look at me," she scoffs slightly shaking her head making Kai laugh quietly at her.
