Kai's POV:

Xander and I walk behind the girls as we all walk into science class. It's not my choice but I had to walk next to him.

My nose scrunches up a bit as I smell a weird odor in here. I stop as Buffy bends down to pick up a pair of glasses?

Wasn't Dr. Gregory wearing those? "What's wrong?" Willow asks in concern.

"If Dr. Gregory dropped his glasses, why wouldn't he pick them up?" Buffy questions with a frown and I tilt my head in confusion.

"Maybe he dropped them without realizing it, love. The man is old," I softly tell her setting my hand on her back.

She nudges me in the side with a playful look and shakes her head. She set down the glasses on the desk before grabbing my hand to guide us towards our desk.

"My name is Natalie French and I'll be substituting for Dr. Gregory," the woman says that gives off weird vibes to me.

"Do you know when he's coming back?" Buffy spoke up and asks. I set my satchel on the ground leaning against the desk.

"No, I don't, um...Buffy. They just call and tell me where they want...me," Ms French walks over with a smile that falters when she looks at me and I look at her in confusion.

What the hell is wrong with her? She steps away and composes herself. "I'll tell you where I want you," Blayne mumbles and I chuckle while glancing back at the boy.

Buffy nudges me and shakes her head. "Excuse me, Blayne?" Ms French questions raising an eyebrow at him.

"Uh, I was just wondering if you were going to pick up where Dr. Gregory left off," he says coming up with a lid on the spot.

Not bad. "Yes. His notes tell me you were right in the middle of insect life," she says and picked up a little capsule with a praying mantis.

"The praying mantis is a fascinating creature, forced to live alone. Who can tell me why?" Ms French announces making me raise my hand but she calls on Buffy instead.

"Well, the words bug-ugly kind of spring to mind," Buffy answers with a bit of hesitation making me and the rest of class chuckle.

Ms French gets a sort of irritated look. "There is nothing ugly out these unique creatures. The reason they live alone is because they are cannibals," she states making me nod in agreement.

"Eww," Buffy says with her face scrunched up in disgust. She looks so cute like that.

"Ohh, well it's hardly their fault. It's the way nature designed them. Noble, Solitary, and Prolific. Over 1,800 species worldwide and in nearly all of them, the female is larger and more aggressive than the male," Ms French continues as she walks back and forth.

She turns around to pick up a book and opened it. "The California mantis lays her eggs and then finds a mate to fertilize them. Once he's played his part, she covers the eggs in a protective sac and attaches it to a leaf or twig out of danger. Now if she's done her job correctly, in a few months she'll have several hundred offspring," Ms French reads from the book and I wrote down a few notes on my notebook.

"You know we should make some model egg sacs for the science fair. Who would like to help me do that after school?" She continues making every boy in class raise their hands with hopeful looks.

They're some hormonal teenagers. "Good," Ms French softly says with a smile as she looks around. There's something off about her.
