chapter thirteen: the war

Friday arrives quicker than you thought. After spending the night at Draken's there was only one night left to go and that was the night of the planned attack. As you meet up with Toman and stand with the members of the first division, you leave space to distance yourself away from Draken. Despite the good time you had with him, you just can't seem to get rid of the guilt plaguing your mind about the events that transpired between your brother and Emma.

Suddenly, amidst your thoughts, Chifuyu pops out of nowhere and plops a helmet down over your head. "What're you staring at?" he asks curiously as he waves a hand in front of your face.

"Nothing," you reply as you return to reality.

However, Chifuyu looks in the direction that you were staring and spots Draken not too far away. "Did something happen?" he continues to press.

"Of course not," you attempt to reassure him. "What could possibly be wrong?"

"I dunno," he shrugs. "But you kinda look like you're about to throw up or something..."

"Yeah, well, we are about to throw ourselves into a war," you quickly lie, hoping that'll get him to stop asking so many questions.

He chuckles as he rubs the back of his neck. "Good point. Guess I kinda forgot about that for a second there. Come on, time to go."

You then hop onto the back of his motorcycle and drive off. As you go you don't notice Draken's eyes watching you as you head away, wondering why you didn't come up and talk to him despite the way you were staring for so long.

When you arrive at Otsuda's base, a creepy abandoned office building, you stick close to Chifuyu as he dismounts his bike. It's not long after hearing the roaring of bikes gathering into one spot until you see your brother step outside with a huge guy probably just as tall as Draken beside him. Your heart sinks as you see him standing before you, but all he does is grin wickedly.

The man beside him throws his arms out to the side as a huge, amused smile grows on his face. "Welcome, Toman, to your own death!" he begins to shout.

Just then, you realize that Toman is surrounded by strangers in white and gold uniforms- Otsuda uniforms- beginning to close in. Moments later, fighting ensues. You stick close to your friends but you still throw and take your fair share of punches. Besides if you have any shred of hope to punch your brother in the face, you're going to have to fight your way through these assholes to get there.

You do pretty well for yourself as you work together with your little team, relying heavily on your adrenaline to keep you going after you suffer a few kicks and strikes to the head. However, one guy that you approach completely dodges all of your shots and ends up locking both of your arms behind you. He then practically drags you through the crowd that seems to make way for him as he leisurely walks by. You shout uselessly at him until you eventually give up. You wonder if maybe he's dragging you over to your brother and you certainly won't fight that- not if it means you'll finally get what you've been looking for.

The man then tosses you in front of him, causing you to stumble forward until you catch your balance. Luckily, you end up right where you wanted.

"Tetta, you fucking worthless piece of shit, I'll kill you!" you shout blatantly at his face. How dare he look so calm and put together right now when all your friends as getting beat half to death!

"Watch your mouth, Y/N. You shouldn't talk to family that way," he calmly remarks.

Just then, there's an odd silence behind you. When you turn around you find Draken almost perfectly placed to hear your conversation beside that same tall loudmouth from before. They both stare you down with different expressions completely covering their faces, but to make things worse, Mikey kicks his way through the nearby crowd to make sure his ears didn't just hear what he thinks they did.

"Mikey, Draken, thank you for bringing my little sister back to me," he says in a false sincerity that makes you want to lunge at him until he fails to take another breath.

Mikey and Draken stare between you and your brother absolutely speechless and you, feeling like you're about to puke your insides out, have not a word you can manage to utter.

"I've been looking for you, Y/N," your brother continues to bathe in his glorious moment. "Where is it that you've been?"

"Fuck off," you cough out, but just as you're about to throw a strike at him, the lanky guy behind you catches your arm and grins as though he's getting just as much amusement from this as your brother is.

"Oh? Did you not tell them?" he asks as though he knows you personally.

"I don't need your fucking help," you shout as you try to release yourself from his hold.

"Really? Well, okay, you tell them then."

By now, as you look out, everybody in the crowd has stopped fighting and their eyes are on you. You spot Takemichi and Chifuyu not too far off with worried looks on their faces. It makes you feel downright disgusted with yourself since they were the ones who stood up for you this whole time.

"Hm, guess not," Kisaki shrugs. "Why don't you explain it, Hanma?"

The man behind you grins and happily tells your story without forgetting a single detail. It seriously creeps you the hell out the way he's able to describe everything with such pinpoint accuracy. It's almost as if he was there those times you were texting your brother, getting yelled at by him, and getting beat up, too.

Tears stream down your face once Hanma finishes and he rips you away from the crowd with his long ass arms. The next thing you know you are stuffed into a dark car and locked inside.
