chapter three: the vice president
The monster before you looks down with furrowed eyebrows, staring at you with distaste. Takemichi laughs awkwardly before finally deciding to save you from certain death.
"Draken," he calls out in a shaky voice, "this is one of our new prospects."
"I'm pleased to meet you," you politely nod, to which he only hums in response.
"U-um, his name is Takahashi Ichiro. I think he'd make a good fit in my division."
Draken nods without the smallest hint of a smile. "I'm glad you've found a new recruit, Takemitchy," he replies just as a shorter man approaches him from the side.
"Ken," he calls, causing Takemichi to stand up a bit straighter.
"Hi, Mikey," Takemichi then smiles.
Your eyes widen as you realize you've finally met your target.
"Ichiro, this is our president, Mikey."
Mikey's eyes glance over to you lazily, as does Draken's once more. You try to hold back the sweat that builds up within you, hoping that neither of them sees through your disguise.
"Where'd you come from?" Mikey then asks, his voice hitting you in a tone that makes you want to forget this whole deal with your brother altogether. You're pretty sure that if Mikey finds out who you are, he'll kill you with absolutely no regret. "How'd you know about this meeting? I've got no idea who you are.
You put on your best smile before faking your entire existence. "I just moved here and I'm looking for a group to join. I'm a good fighter and enjoy it, too," you lie. You've never even been in a physical fight before.
Takemichi's eyes light up with excitement. "You really will be a great addition to my division," he beams.
Mikey nods. "Well then I guess you're in. Welcome aboard."
"Thank you, President."
Your eyes then shift over to Draken who is still staring down at you skeptically. You smile quickly at him before looking away. He then thankfully walks off with Mikey.
"Enjoy the rest of your night, Ichiro," he smiles. "I'll text you when to meet up with us again, okay?"
"Thanks, I'll be looking forwards to it," you wave before taking your leave.
You reach down into your shoe where you had left your phone as more of a habit than anything else. You text your brother as you make your way toward the bathroom. Luckily, he says he'll be there soon to pick you up.
Just as you put down your phone, you arrive at the bathrooms. You stare between the two signs for a moment, not knowing which way to go. You can't use the girl's bathroom right now or else your whole cover might get blown when you walk out and you really don't want to go into the men's room. However, you've got to pee so badly you decide you'll just have to go for it.
Sucking in a deep breath, you walk into the men's room. You begin to make your way over to the stalls when your eyes catch on a tall man leaning over the sink. He picks his head up when he notices you as well and stares at you through the mirror.
It's Draken, you shriek in your brain since he's quite literally the last person you'd like to see right now. He also seems the most skeptical about your entire existence and you hope he doesn't see right through you. However, he is quite handsome. If only you weren't in this situation and he didn't seem to hate or be suspicious of you, then maybe you could just give in to what your parents are asking for you...
Instead, you flash him a smile before quickly hiding in a stall. Just then, you receive a text from your brother saying he's right around the corner. You've got to get out of here, and fast! You take a deep breath as you try to come up with a plan but before you can say or do anything, Draken clears his throat.
"Takahashi, was it?" he asks.
"Yes, but people just call me Ichiro" you reply quickly, hoping to appear normal despite how nervous you sound.
"Where did you say you were from again, Ichiro?" he continues to press.
"Okayama," you lie as it is the first place you can think of.
"That's nice. I've got a friend that lives out there. What gym did you use to go to?"
Goddammit. First, he didn't want to say anything at all to me and now he's got fifty questions all of a sudden?
"It was a family gym. Takahashi gym," you explain.
"Hm. Maybe I'll go check it out if it made you as good of a fighter as you say you are."
"Yeah, well, it's a bit of a drive," you chuckle nervously, hoping he doesn't ask you anything more about the location of your fake family gym.
"It's no worry," he hums.
You close your eyes as you lean up against the stall. You can hear Draken take a few steps closer to you, your heartbeat quickening as he gets closer and closer.
"I look forwards to talking to you again, Ichiro. I'm quite interested in learning more about you. Have a good rest of your evening."
"Thanks, I am, too," you respond without thinking.
"Oh?" he hums. "Interested in what, exactly?"
You tense up as you realize what you just said. You really didn't mean to say it like that but now you've got yourself stuck even deeper in this conversation.
"Um, I'm not feeling all that well after the alcohol I drank. Maybe we can talk some other time?" you call out, praying that your excuse works.
"I understand. Feel better soon, Ichiro."
"Thank you," you hum as you hear the bathroom door swing open and Draken steps out. You then let out a deep sigh of relief as you're finally left alone.

"Takemichi asked me to join his division," you explain to your brother on the car ride home after he gave you the look of 'tell me some good news or I'll fucking kill you'.
"That's great. You're doing everything you need to do for this to be successful. Just make sure that nobody catches you as a girl," he explains.
"I was surprised, but they all bought into it for the most part," you smile proudly.
"For the most part?" he repeats. "Explain yourself."
"Well, Draken seemed kinda suspicious of me but I'm not sure why. He said he was interested in getting to know me better."
"The VP? He won't do anything unless he's got definitive proof. You won't give him that, will you?" he hums venomously.
"Of course not," you roll your eyes. "I'm not going to jeopardize this good thing I've got going."
You then look out the window from the silence that has now befallen the two of you. Draken was quite handsome, you can admit to yourself. Perhaps in another life...
