chapter ten: the plan
Y/N's P.O.V.
The following day there is yet another meeting- a part two to the conversation discussed at the prior Toman meeting. You're sure that this is definitely not a good sign. As you arrive and walk towards the building you see Draken heading towards Toman's headquarters at the same time you are. You shut your eyes and sigh when he spots you. You're not really in the mood to talk to him and your friends are already beginning to suspect something weird between the two of you. Having mixed emotions about him doesn't really help either.
"Good morning, Y/N," he calls as he approaches you.
"Hi," you reply, smiling quickly.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm fine," you politely respond as you stuff your hands into your pockets, looking down, and trying to avoid any eye contact with him. "What's this meeting about? Are we actually getting into a war?"
"Mikey and I had a talk after the meeting yesterday and we think it's in our best interest to attack Otsuda's base on Friday before they get to us first. We don't plan on giving the specifics I just gave you to everyone, but they'll get the gist," he explains to you. "Besides, not everyone is here at today's meeting, and for good reason. We decided only to invite those we trust. We don't want this information getting into the wrong ears."
"That's smart," you nod, thinking something completely different in your head.
Shit, they'll be so suspicious of me if I tell Tetta about this and it won't just be Draken anymore.
Draken then stops walking just before you reach the front door. You wish your nightmare of being alone with him would just be over with already, but it only gets worse.
"I trust you with this information, Y/N. I know that in the past I made it quite obvious that I hadn't trusted you, but you are one of Toman's respected members so I must apologize for any bad blood between us," he remarks sincerely.
"It's fine," you smile as guilt builds up in your stomach. "No big deal, no bad blood at all."
He nods and opens the door to allow you inside first. The second you walk in and the two of you separate, you rush right to the bathroom. Inside one of the stalls, you quickly type out a message to your brother with all of the information you just received before you end up changing your mind, but just before you send it the bathroom door bursts open. You cover your mouth before you can let out a gasp and blow your cover.
"Mikey, I'm worried about the first division," you hear Chifuyu whisper.
"With Takemitchy unable to land any punches and Y/N still being somewhat new to this whole thing with not as much prior experience as we thought, I'm worried too," Mikey replies. "Just because she could handle herself against Takemitchy doesn't mean she's ready for a war."
Once more the door opens and heavy footsteps walk in. "Mikey, I was looking for you," Draken's unmistakable voice calls out. There's then a pause of silence before he continues. "What's going on?"
Chifuyu then explains his perspective. "I'm not sure we should take Takemitchy or Y/N with us on Friday," he says a bit saddened by his thoughts.
"Even though they are not the strongest fighters they've got just as much to do with Toman's fate as the rest of us. Besides, Y/N is able to take care of herself and Takemitchy, too, for that matter. He's saved my life more times than I can remember," Draken responds.
Chifuyu hums in agreement. "Then we'll be there to back them up, too! Oh, and Draken, you promised to keep watch over Y/N anyway, right? Guess that means we'll leave you in charge."
"Good thinking, Chifuyu," Mikey adds. "How is that going by the way? Are you still suspicious of her? The two of you are practically inseparable."
"I saw you come in with Y/N today, too!" Chifuyu chimes in before Draken can speak. "Did the two of you walk here together?"
"No, it's nothing like that. It was a coincidence that we both happened to show up at the same time but it was a good chance for me to explain to her that I no longer suspect her of anything malicious."
Mikey huffs disapprovingly and you can hear him walk away in his flip-flops.
"What's up with him?" Chifuyu then asks, sticking his nose in Draken's business.
"Dunno."
"Hm, okay, well I'll see you in a bit," Chifuyu shrugs before heading out.
However, Draken still stays. You watch him in the crack of the stall to see him lean his back against a sink and fold his arms facing in your direction.
"Alright, you can come out now, you little stalker. What the hell are you doing in the men's bathroom anyway?" he smirks.
You sigh and put away your phone and the unsent message. "I think it was a force of habit," you reply as you unlock the door and step out into the open.
"Yeah, well you better be able to handle yourself on Friday after I just stood up for you. I don't want to be saving your ass from getting kicked in the face every five seconds. Besides, I don't think you'd want that either. Pretty girl like you might be mistaken for a guy with a black eye and a broken nose," he teases.
"Ha ha, didn't know you were into comedy," you remark sarcastically as you step closer to him. "But don't worry about me. It's like you said before, I can handle myself just fine. I don't think I'll need any rescuing."
Draken grins as he leans up from the sink and steps towards you. Just as you find yourself getting close to him, the bathroom door swings open yet again, and Mitsuya steps in.
"Oh, uh, sorry... I'll just use another bathroom," he says a bit awkwardly.
"Wait, it isn't what it looks like," you call out to him reflexively as you back away from Draken.
Mitsuya nods slowly as he grins and begins to close the door. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone..."
You look over at Draken in silence, not quite knowing what to say or do in this situation. But the second your first idea hits your brain telling you to run the hell out of there as quickly as you can, that's exactly what you do.
"I gotta go," you tell him with a quick grin before bolting to the door.
