It isn't over

Dear Diary,

I guess no one really knows what's going to happen in the future. All I knew then was that I was in love. I knew that Daniel loved me too.

But every time I look back on that summer I cry. It's been two years since that summer. It's been two long years without Daniel. Two years to re-evaluate my life and reassess everything I've done.

That summer we went to the beach together. Every single day we spent together. And on the second to last week of summer we had to part ways. I lived on the other side of the country... It would never have worked. Daniel wanted it to, but I told him it was too hard. To talk to him and not feel his hands the way they wrapped up in mine and his hugs that made my heart flutter. But I ended it to learn that my family was moving to where Daniel's family lives. By the time I got to school on the first day of school Daniel was with another girl. Go figure.

He is perfection. His smile. His laugh. His hair. His eyes. Him. Any girl would throw themselves at him.

Maybe being with him made me stronger. But it was also the thing that broke me.

He's with Emma now. Emma is beautiful. Emma is popular. Emma is Emma. I could never compare to her. Daniel definitely knows that. He never looked at me the way he looks at her.

I long to just catch a glimpse of him staring at me. But never once has he looked at me since we broke up.

He knows I'm here because he did wave on the first day of school but that was it. I miss him but I'm too afraid to tell him.

I love him. But he's moved on. I'm sitting in my room crying so hard I'm shaking. I barely know how I'm writing in my diary.

Love,

Makayla

I was interrupted writing my diary entry when there was a loud knock on my door.

"Makayla open up. Someone's here for you." my mother screams though the locked door.

I unlock the door and follow my mom into the living room.

Daniel is sitting on the couch holding flowers.

"Hi Makayla." He whispers.

"Um. Hi. What are you doing here?" I ask.

My mom walks out of the room and leaves us alone.

"Makayla. Emma means nothing to me. Do you know how much it hurts to see you not in my arms. Seeing what we have become makes me sick. I love you. More than anyone in this whole world. Being with Emma only made my feelings stronger for you. I just never reached out until now. The day we met. I love you. And I just hope you can forgive me and we can get back together."

I take a minute.

And then I jump into his arms. We fall onto the couch. He pulls me close and kisses me hard and long. It's not over between us. Our love is strong.
